As the bottle declares this beer has been made with, “Water + Malt + Hops + Yeast And A Christmas Tree.” You read that right. Art Brew went and stuck a whole Christmas Tree into this beer just to see what happened. What happened is a rather lovely Pale Ale. The smell is an odd sugary pine resin and furniture polish on freshly chopped wood. The flavour is deep and rich and remarkably yummy. Almost sticky on your tongue, Christmas Tree Beer is gloopy with toffee, all runny and chewy. The hops are spicy and citrus fresh, bitter, crisp and dry with hints of lime leaves, grapefruit flesh and lemon rind. And walking around all over it is this resinous, mouth coating, slightly odd but weirdly lovely woody, barky, pine needle bitterness that’s so lip curling it’s extraordinary. This is a festive beer for anarchists.
