78 My first stop on the mainland, and a 40 minute wait to open on a Saturday morning, even though there own Facebook page stated a 11am opening only weeks previously. A very impressive collection of bottled & canned beers from the West Midlands, rest of England & Europe, but none I noticed were in fridges & also service was very lackluster & I was not able to get a itemed receipt. Overall I place well worth a stop, a got a load of beers at a decent price but I preferred my visit to Stirchley Wines immediately afterwards. |
86 Ah the great Cotteridge Wines, one of the very reasons to visit this area. So this place should not leave anything to be desired? Well the selection is very good. Bunch of good UK breweries like Deya, Northern Monk, Cloudwater, occasional Verdant, Neon Raptor and much more. However not that many high scored ones which are most sought after. Maybe we paid it a visit at wrong time. I expected a bit more from bottles from Kernel or Burning Sky, but they did have some interesting Durham beers. Impressive range of imported beers, especially from US. But these days you can get those cheaper from Dutch online shops, I guess we're too spoiled these days. Also some parts of the shelves were empty, not sure if we came just before a shipment. Service seemed a bit indifferent, but that might be our fault. Don't get me wrong this is a great shop, one of the best I've been to in UK, but it doesn't compare to top US shops. Certainly worth visiting. |
86 I've heard about this place for years and was only able to check it out now. Upon approaching the shop, it didn't look from the outside like one of the best beer shops in England. However going inside, and looking at the many delights that awaited, I wasn't disappointed. Some amazing craft beer from all over the world, but I was especially drawn to the US bottles: Crooked Stave, Lost Abbey, Prairie and the like. Exciting stuff. The tap room was a bit cold, both in temperature and ambience, but there were quite a few good beers being sold from Mikkeller, Magic Rock, Siren and the like. A destination shop for sure. |
92 The go to place to shop for beers in Birmingham. The range is always top notch, the quality of choice is so good its easy just to take a chance on a few different beers. The tap room is a nice addition, would be nice if the outdoor area has a bit of a refurb but a superb place nonetheless |
92 Lucky enough to live just down the road from Cotteridge Wines. Superb selection of beer. Could spend hours there. Owners/staff leave you be to pick what you like, but are happy to help with recommendations. Little micropub/beer garden (summer) out back. Enjoy! |
92 Walkable from Kings Norton railway station. Amazing bottleshop & taproom run by two brothers. Suposedly a range of over 1400 bottles. Certainly the the most comprehensive selection that I have seen in a bottleshop. I have spent over an hour perusing the selection on a good few occasions. Taproom out the back, often with some pretty interesting beers on offer. |
90 Very very impressive selection with lots of locals, other UK beers and foreign beers. Most foreign beers were US. Beer garden out back. 14 taps, but only 8 were in use. Nice place to buy beers and tick right away. Friendly service. |
90 This store has an amazing selection of UK beers in the middle and foreign beers on the outside. We had decided to spend an entire day here sampling bottles, which got us to around 70. We arrived at 13.00 and stayed until the outdoor serving area closed at 19.30. Even though we had this much time, and were very selective, we never made it to the foreign beers. They also have a small tap room out back, but only eight of the 14 taps were on. They have a toilet upstairs, and I must say that it is long overdue for a renovation. We were allowed to use the fridges for cooling the bottled beers, which was really nice. |
90 01/05/17. Ubered here with a colleague on a lunchtime - annoyingly didn’t have time to try the tap room. Walked in, saw all the beers and instantly forgot what I was after. Whilst I wandered around picking a few beers to take back down south my colleague wandered around filling a box. I would too if I was local and single. The owners were extremely helpful, checking for a couple of beers I was after and making recommendations to me. They got extra business because my colleague then bought the beers they were point out to me. My concern a out this place is that I picked the wrong beers. Why did I put the Elusive beer back?? Next time I come up I will bring a bigger bag. |
