70 Visited in August 2021. Despite other people on Ratebeer recommending this chain, I'd never found one of their stores... until by chance we stumbled across one in Clitheroe. So... it's not quite as smart-looking as the main supermarket chains. However, it did have much more local produce than the main chains, alongside a large deli bar and a machine for squeezing delicious fresh orange juice. The beer selection seemed very good... loads of beers from Lancashire & Cumbria (including micro's that were new to me at least), alongside a larger selection of Belgian and German brews than the other supermarkets. The staff seemed friendly, and prices were a little (but not much) higher than the major supermarkets (as you'd expect for a smaller chain). Overall I liked it... although I do wonder if some of my liking was due to novelty, and whether if I'd always shopped at Booths I'd be even more impressed on my first visit to a big Tesco's. Nevertheless, I'd definitely visit again if I saw another one. |
74 Small but classy northern based supermarket chain (covering Manchester - Lancashire - Cumbria - Yorkshire), similar in standard to Waitrose in general. They have possibly the best selection of any supermarket chain in the UK. Always plenty of local options available , both trad & craft |
76 This place beats most beer stores, if you like me are looking for local brews. There was about 40 or so beers from Cumbria, quite a few from Lancashire and many many others from all over the UK. Maybe around 200 beers total with the vast majority being craft beers. Cheap too. |
70 Kendal: This Booths had around 40 different beers from Cumbria, and many of them were new for us. They also had a large section of Lancashire beers and a good craft section as well. They had beers from the rest of the UK too. A very easy place to pick up rates from Cumbria and Lancashire. Good service for a grocery store.
I really do not understand, why all these stores have to listed under one, as they have a very regional focus. It was easily the best place in town for local ticks, and yet it is not allowed to be on RB. What a strange policy we have on this point. |
72 I have managed to find 4 Booth’s Supermarkets on our foray’s up to the North West and each time the range has been pretty decent. Mostly regional choices with a few standard nationals thrown in, but also the odd imported gem. Always well worth a look, otherwise they are just normal Supermarkets. |
78 I had heard great things of this supermarket chain based in the North West of England. Finally I got to pop into the Ilkley branch. I wasn’t disappointed a decent selection of local national and international beer. Well worth a visit. |
72 Unfortunately regional, the beer range has always been excellent, especially in the larger branches. Local micro breweries share shelf space with both region brewery bottles and a good selection of international brews |
76 Been to four different ones now and the Knutsford outlet four times. Always a good selection of local and foreign beers on offer: food quality is also very good. Not cheap, but the quality over rules that. I make the effort to try and find one if we are in the North West of England. |
74 We visited the Penrith location of the Booths supermarket chain. As other reviewers have noted these guys provide the best beer selection of any supermarket in the UK. There was a whole aisle dedicated to good beer, which was separated out by country and UK region. It covers everything from local real ale to high-end UK and US craft beers. It was great to see so much canned Beavertown in a supermarket! Although I didn’t dwell they had a decent selection of cider also. Definitely worth stopping past if you are anywhere near one. |
76 The best supermarket choice bar non. Great range of local and international ales you don’t find anywhere else hats of whoever does the sourcing expect to pay a little more than your regular supermarkets but worth it. |
