50 2022 rating: touristy place with bad service, nothing really interesting beside the kölsch tick. |
64 Nice cozy brewpub in Alter Markt. Lots of tables, nice interior with wood carvings. They just have the Kolsch of course (surprisingly we were able to order it in a large size, though no one else was doing that). They have traditional German food available (which I didn’t order). Good beer, worth a stop. |
54 Well, sorry for coming 15 minutes before closing time. I understand that normal German service requires at least 45 minutes to serve 0.25l beer. So yeah point taken.
We came back next day only to be disappointed about the same rude service and quite bland beer. Only entertainment was mouse which was running around under the tables and chairs.
I did had a bowl of fries, which was massive. Meant for group rather than just one person. |
40 Typical Kölner pub. Staff running around with Kölner Stange with Pfaffen Original. You hardly get the charge to order something else. Heumarkt is a nice market place to visit though. (11-2021). |
64 On the touristy corner of the Haumarkt, lies this authentic yet fairly modern traditional kölsch gasthaus. A lot of small tables makes it easier as a tourist, without this in any way being anything but the ausschank it is. The tasty Päffgen kölsches keep coming, the enormous German servings of food is abundant and there’s really no complaints.
* How do you rate the selection attribute in a place like this? The whole concept is to serve the one beer they do. To give a fair total score I’ll give a 10, even though there’s no selection at all and as such it should really be 1.

62 One of the busier places on the old town main square, with locals spilling out the doors and seated everywhere you could imagine inside, upstairs and down. Cool wood sculptures at the bar tables; the place seems hip, and a little pretentious honestly. The beer was ok, but nothing that great in my opinion, and the food seemed like standard Koln fair. A smaller producer, so worth stopping in just for that, but otherwise there are better kolsch breweries around.

72 Local centrico con dos plantas, trato amable, lugar para tomar Kolsh |
68 One of my preferred brew houses in the city that for some reason I don’t seem to have reviewed. Maybe that’s just the ratebeer “lost sock” disappointing places rates though. Revisited on a sunny afternoon and rather than sit in the spacious woody inside area we were directed to a nice quiet terrace at the back in a charming little square. The kolsch is, as always, probably the best. Didn’t eat this time though have many times in the past and it’s always been solid. |
78 A popular Kölsch place that is centrally located. Both the interieur and the Koebes are nice. Kölsch seems to be served from the Holzfass, and damn, it is tasty! I like it better than Päffgen. Don't miss out on this. |
42 Pleasant enough building and interior. Unpleasant enough service to remind me I'm in a German bar. Staff simply assumed as soon as anything was mentioned that we wanted 5 of it. The response to "do you have wine?" was to bring a glass of white wine. The response to "Oh, I wanted red" was "we don't have red". A glass of red was served to someone at the next table within 5 minutes. Was the best of the 6 tap kolsch we had in town, and the bock was pretty OK (and shocked the staff when Anna ordered it, because bock is a strong beer for men (she ordered it because we'd frankly given up attempting to communicate that only one of us wanted the bock, and just accepted our additional kolsch (or white wine))). |
