66 /100 Jumbo Supermarket (Grocery Store) BOTERSLOOT 13-19 Well worth a look if in this part of the city, well stocked & priced supermarket with at least 100 different Dutch bottles & cans from across the country. |
50 /100 Café ’t Fust (Bar) STADHUISPLEIN 21 In a row of restaurants between the shopping area and the town hall, it has a very large outdoor area (they all have!). Perhaps more of a restaurant than beer venue it may have a bottle or two of interest to non-Dutch visitors. |
82 /100 NIEUWE BINNENWEG 53 A-B Huge place with a lot of taps and bottles; to be visited |
82 /100 Kaapse Will'ns B.V. (Bar) NIEUWE BINNENWEG 111-A 02 8 top notch kapsee beers on tap and axlot of bottles/cans; what else would you want? |
88 /100 Kaapse Maria (Restaurant) MAURITSWEG 52 Brewpub of Kaapse brewery with 25 beers on tap - what else should I say?Of course you must visit! :) |
80 /100 Sijf (Bar) OUDE BINNENWEG 115 Great ambiance, quite good selection of "standard' beers (like la chouffe, affligem dubbel/tripel, lagunitas ipa, etc) on tap and great selecton of bottles/cans |
78 /100 Haagse Bluf (Bar) HAAGSEVEER 90 Everywhere else this place with 9 beers on tap and several bottles would be great; here in the Netherlands it's just another place to tick |
78 /100 HALVEMAANPASSAGE 1 Another place of the Franchise with great ambiance and 3 beers brewed on-site on thevtopxof regular Brewdog sortiment as well as guest beers |
70 /100 THOMS Underground Bar (Bar) MEENT 131-129 Great ambiance, 9 beers on tap (mostly local ones) and heineken from tank; not a beer heaven but still quite good place |
88 /100 Bier&zO (Beer Store) HOOGSTRAAT 54A I am going to assume this is the same as Karreman Biermesters based on the address. The shop is located a five or ten minute walk from Markthal. Upon entering the shelves are neatly organized by style and region. There is not a huge amount of offerings but things felt well curated. Among the highlights were (relatively) affordable bottles of Westvleteren at about half the price of buying the same in the touristy areas of Belgium. Prices seemed mostly reasonable if a bit on the high side - certainly nothing worse than I have seen in other shops when not buying directly from 3F or Cantillon.
If I ever find myself back in Rotterdam I will happily visit again as it offers a convenient way to purchase some souvenirs when not able to travel down to Antwerp or Brussels. |
68 /100 Bierboutique (Bar) WITTE DE WITHSTRAAT 40B Short stay on the terrace on a saturday afternoon. Over 50 beers on the menu. Local brews, the more standard collection you'd find everywhere and some interesting beers you won't find everywhere. When around sit down and enjoy. (9-2019) |
66 /100 Proeflokaal Reijngoud (Bar) SCHIEDAMSE VEST 148 Place worth a visit to try some of there own beers in the city centre. Fairly quite on a Wednesday evening. Porter was very good |
72 /100 NIEUWE BINNENWEG 53 A-B Reasonable but fairly busy place to stop for a beer in the city centre. Mostly Belgium beers, but a small selection of Dutch, 1st Groningen beer for me so I was happy. Good food served & good service. |
64 /100 Café De Oude Sluis (Bar) HAVENSTRAAT 7 Friendly brown cafe overlooking the end of the harbour. There is a terrace on a balcony adjoining the main bar and a larger outside area. Reasonable beer choice. Worth a visit if in the area or visiting Pelgrim |
80 /100 AELBRECHTSKOLK 12, DELFSHAVEN A must visit & very enjoyable place to spend a hour or two in a old harbour neighbourhood brewpub, especially on a summers afternoon with some great tables overlooking the harbour. It's a fair but pleasant walk from the city centre along the river, Metro is 3 stops as I found my way back. Beers I tried were passable to good, service was decent. A few other beer venues in the neighbourhood are also worth a visit |
82 /100 VEERLAAN 19D Great location on a island & enjoyable walk from the city centre across a large bridge. Brewing is no longer done here, but still a very enjoyable place to visit on a Wednesday lunchtime. Choice of 28 taps, half which are guests. Friendly service. Lots of different places to sit, great cheese & meat platter served from the Felix Food folk inside the same building. Also there is a deli, book shop & bottle shop. |
68 /100 Bokaal Rotterdam (Bar) NIEUWEMARKT 11 Visited last of 3 stops on my 1st evening of a Dutch tour, my least favourite so I only stopped for one. Sat outside on the patio, it was fairly busy. Reasonable selection of local beers |
76 /100 OOSTZEEDIJK 364 My first visit to a Dutch Brown Bar and a little difficult to get used to the dark lighting.. I now know there are 2 bars right next to each other, I visited the right hand one which is Locus International according to my receipt. Reasonable busy on a Tuesday evening. A small selection of draft pours on blackboards & a very good range of what I presume are bottles/cans from the menu on the table from Rotterdam & the rest of South Holland. I visited for this reason, so very content to try a couple. Severs come to the table & pour your beer from behind the bar, not my personal way as I like to see the can/bottle. |
80 /100 GOUDSESINGEL 284 My 1st stop on my Dutch tour, highly enjoyable venue to spend a couple of hours sat on the busy patio on a Tuesday evening. Choice of 5 beers from the brewpub marked up on blackboard served in 300ml measures, the ones I tried were very good. Very tasty burgers served from a menu with plenty of other choices on it. Service was friendly, helpful & efficient. |
62 /100 AELBRECHTSKOLK 12, DELFSHAVEN Lovely old school (lots of old dark wood) bar in a pleasant non-central part of Rotterdam. I choose for the outside seating near the canal, very nice. Nice looking place and relaxing, solid service. Neighbourhood is also nice. The taps seemed to be all around their own brews. You can pick a flight which I did with the beers coming in shot glass sized glasses, 5 euro for 5 shot pours. Sadly with this nice setting and everything their beers were just plain terrible. No brewing errors but heavy corn syrup, soft carb, massively soapy, unpleasant esters for all styles largely including an IPA which was just sad. Only their stout differed a bit but suffice to say it was also very unpleasant. This place started in 1996 and hasn’t moved along with the scene or in quality it seems. Hard to rate this as a good beer place since the beer is just bad. They are also partially a restaurant and they were advertising mussels for which the season has started, didn’t eat anything. |
74 /100 VIJVERHOFSTRAAT 10 Not too far from the central station. This place is massive, underneath railway arches, just massive terrace really & looks gorgeous on top as well. They have 3 of their own beers on tap which is their whole line-up at the moment I believe. The rest of the taps are popular NL beers but not interesting like Bavaria & Cornet, there is also Rodenbach. Bottle list was far more interesting than expected since they had an AF RIS. BBQ was also happening, worth popping by just to their beers but obviously nothing essential. |
70 /100 HALVEMAANPASSAGE 1 Massive place and surprisingly centrally located and quite popular. Looks very much like BrewDog, massive glass, metal, high ceilings, new wood, neon signs and Golden Eye & LOTR pinball machines being the only personalized flourishes. I love BrewDog design. Great service and some enthusiasm here. Way less taps than I expected, guest taps just Noordt, small number of BrewDog beers with largely the common ones like Bubblehead & Elvis Juice, Off-Duty King was the only one that popped out. Shame, most interestingly they had their first own beer called Experimental IPA which tasted plain bad & shouldn’t been sold, massive soggy malty mess which was probably called only Experimental after they tasted it. Food menu is BrewDog stapple, wings, hot dogs, burgers,… Would have eaten if I wasn’t full already, music touch too loud for me but that is fake punk I suppose. Bottle selection wasn’t more exciting than the draft selection. Prices higher than elsewhere but not terrible so. One of the weaker BrewDog’s so far for me, could be improved by brewing decent beer or having more interesting guests or selection. I doubt that there is much incentive or need for them since the place is already booming. |
88 /100 Hop-In Bierwinkel (Beer Store) ZWAANSHALS 484 Neighbourhood shop, not too big but quite fire in selection. From cool Bruery to Amundsen to lots of Tilquin to interesting locals at quite fair prices, need to stop myself from dragging along too much beer with me. Owner was very friendly and very knowledgeable. Very reasonable prices and even got some random discount on the Bruery I got. Superb stuff. |
84 /100 ZAAGMOLENKADE 46 Slightly away from the centre but not that much really. BBQ happening outside in a food truck, repurposed container. Interior is white tiles for the bar, visible large tanks and compressed wood pulp walls (don’t know actual term). Doesn’t look to big inside but more seating than to be expected plus lots of seating outside & plenty of people. About 20 taps all priced at 3.75 euro for 250 ml. which is great deal. Few lagers, bok, lentebier, IPA’s, Tripel, barleywine & elderflower lemonade. More classical Dutch even though this brewery is only about 5 years old. I have had their beers before a long time ago and wasn’t too impressed but this is a case where freshness and location helps a lot. The beers aren’t top and bit simple but very fresh with great malt qualities and highly enjoyable. Lots of stuff here that isn’t bottled, the elderflower lemonade was weird, very vegetable, weird sugar & green honeydew melon rind. I enjoyed all of the beers that I sampled, Munich lager, Grapefruit IPA, barley wine, pastry blond,…. Last one I asked few times what makes it pastry & reply kept being it is a sweet tasting blond beer, turns out it was indeed & not pastry in a beer geek kind of way, funny. Small bottle shop with only their basics and none of the specials on tap. I wouldn’t seek out their beers but this is a great place to drink them at this condition. |
74 /100 Proeflokaal Reijngoud (Bar) SCHIEDAMSE VEST 148 Central, located in a street made up largely of largely of restaurants, very nice terrace. A bit hard to judge properly since in line with current Covid regulations, I stayed just on the terrace and like many places they changed their menu to a QR code. I am rather technologically backwards. I checked online menu, plenty of beers but noting too special and the usual suspects. I scrolled a bit through their Untappd feed to get an idea. Anyway I asked about their IPA’s and got suggestions of a Kaapse and a Jopen beer. Lots of people getting food which is burgers, stake, bitterballen etc. I ate one door over at VJFB. Overall lovely looking place, nice terrace, nothing too crazy to choose from but definitely more than enough different solid bit more mainstream craft beers. Their brewpub location is definitely the more interesting one for beer geeks. |
76 /100 HALVEMAANPASSAGE 1 Fairly long, modern brewpub interior. Not just another BrewDog bar, as they brew their own unique beers here. 21 beers on tap, a mix of BrewDog regulars, specials and BrewDog Rotterdam. 8 taps reserved for guest beers, most of which were interesting. Service was quick and attentive to my needs. This place surpassed my expectations. |
70 /100 GALILEÏSTRAAT 24 Located by the harbour, a short train ride from the center and not far from Kaapse. Previously, there was nothing in this neighbourhood, looks far away and dull approaching, but it is relatively nearby. Visited durring the Shipped Beer Festival. The place is just gigantic, the second largest independent brewery in the Netherlands currently apparently. The backing is from Bierfabriek. Brewery tours possible, brewery is huge, two bars and a pick-up point for food. I had a portion of vegan bitterballen for 6 euro. There is also a shop with gift packs, shirts, magnets, key chains. 1950s USA roadside restuarant styled booths, huge velvet couches, taps for beer on your table where you can also rinse your glass. The observation is simply enormous, complete with a terrace. Everything is impressive except for their own beers; the festival collaboration smoked Märzen was nice, but their own beers were quite dull, consisting of overly traditional NL-BE inspired beers such as Belgian Blond, Dutch Bock, Tripel, and so on. It is definitely worth visiting and a cool place. A shame that the beers are so dull and feel so stuck in time, especially for a new brewery. |
66 /100 Bierboutique (Bar) WITTE DE WITHSTRAAT 40B Very short visit late night saturday before getting a train. Large terrace in a street full of other bars, lovely interior. Not very exciting tap menu with Affligem, Lagunitas and Noordt beers plu Heineken, Brand, Birra Moretti but at least a Dogma tap. High prices, slichtly more interesting bottle and can selection but still Kompaan, Uiltje etc. Eh. |
76 /100 Kaapse Will'ns B.V. (Bar) NIEUWE BINNENWEG 111-A 02 New Kaapse location, interesting looking venue, like a rundown old house only partially remodeled with white tiles on top of the old construction and an old fashioned massive bar but more massive in length. Bar goes deep but very narrow, only seats at the bar or a mezzanine that is a bit dark & deep. Terrace is de facto one large table. Interesting venue. 7 taps, 2 standard Kaapse beers, pilsner, session IPA, 6 Kaapse on tap when visited and one smoked beer as guest beers. Small pours are 180 ml. and way too steep in price compared to 500 ml. pours. Can / bottled selection is Kaapse and some cool German beers and German beer styles beers. Love the selection but for being German beers and their own beers but too expensive – 5 euro for a Rothaus etc. Bar snacks like pickled eggs and cheese available, shots, cool place, love the German stuff available but definitely bit too pricy, good service. |
72 /100 Pardoen (Bar) SPAANSEKADE 62 Located next to a slew of other bars near the harbor with also another packed and inviting terrace. Bar itself is old, wood, two flours but small compared to the terrace. Pleasant sitting, slightly steep prices for what the beers are. Didn’t see a full menu, menu next to the bar is confusing, looked a bit at the website as well. More old school Dutch beers with a large Ramses selection advertised, Vet & Lazy beer on tap,.. Notes written to warn against partying late at night. Decent place to sit outside, not the greatest beers or prices but very friendly service. Okay place. |
74 /100 GOUDSESINGEL 284 Massive, modern, huge terrace overlooking an intersection. Set on the huge terrace, lots of people here for Heineken, ‘t Jij beers. Quite quick service, rotating taps of Oedipus, Texels next to bigger macros and 2 of their beers on tap with an occasional micro. Their own beers were interesting, fresh, messy, raw, wort, massive hop, wouldn’t drink loads of it but definitely nice to try. Pub fare for food, tried vegan bitterballen which were good but not top. Interesting for sure to check out their own beers. |
74 /100 GELDERSEKADE 1A Located near the harbor, bar run by the owner of Vet & Lazy. Lovely bit rundown bar, lots of age and some fun decoration choice. Brewer / barman introduced all of the beers. 7 beers on taps, some sounded quite interesting, ginger, mushroom, German style beers etc. Good prices, lovely service, really nice atmosphere, vibe. Toilet is through / inside the adjacent establishment which is funny when you open the door to the toilet. Only downside is really, I wasn’t a fan of the beers, massively messy, non-professional almost,… Luckily he has a fridge full of other beers since this is a nice place to hang out at. |
70 /100 VEERLAAN 19D Cool location, fair prices, ok service and really good beers. Worth a visit for sure. |
62 /100 GALILEÏSTRAAT 24 Amazing new big complex with great service. Sadly, the beers were far from being anything special. |
60 /100 AELBRECHTSKOLK 12, DELFSHAVEN I understand there's quite a bit of history with this place, but I must say it was nothing special. If you happen to be close by? Sure, drop in for a visit, but don't go out of your way to visit this brewpub. |
100 /100 HALVEMAANPASSAGE 1 Visited 20-04-2022. Amazing place. When entering you can see the fermenting tanks of the beer brewed on site. The place has a nice industrial vibe, perfect for a punk beer company. In one corner there are pinball machines and board games, to play with mates. You can play a game of chess while enjoying beer. The music is nice. Loud, but definitely not too loud. And a great selection of rock music. Ambiance wise a great place.
The service is great too. We tried almost all beers on draught (14 out of 18) in pairs of 2. When your glass empties, the staff immediately comes and asks for a refill. Service is quick and clean. No comments what so ever. Friendly and they know their basics about the beer they serve.
The selection is great. 18 beers on draught, some 10-12 of their own and a few guest beers. Some unique beers brewed on sight. And besides that a great selection of cans and bottles. Food selection is good too. Not too much, but a good variety. And the food is good too.
So, overall a great bar. Also the value is pretty good. 5 hours inside, 28 15cl tasters and some snacks for 120 euros. Pretty decent. |
68 /100 AELBRECHTSKOLK 12, DELFSHAVEN After 17 years made it back to this brewer and had a few beers, quite a lively place. Quick service, although didn’t know much of the beers, I think its too commercial nowadays. Still had a couple of nice berrs, so a good night. |
74 /100 Kaapse Maria (Restaurant) MAURITSWEG 52 Nice location with a small number of tables outside and a cozy, quaint, wooden old style coffee shop feel inside. Pretty much a Kaapse beer list on tap but also a couple of guests. Nice food/snack list. Close to center of town and shopping district. Busy on a Friday evening. A worthy stop for a beer and food. |
42 /100 VEERLAAN 19D Typical small brewery beer pouring venue with the advantage of outdior tables if you can get one. Chaotic set up with self self food place kind of merged in. Busy. Lots of Kaapse on tap, no surprise, with a few interesting guest taps. Super small bottle shop inside. Honestly would not venture out again unless with a group and arrive early to get best table outside. Kaapse Maria is better. Very overrated |
82 /100 Café Walenburg (Bar) WALENBURGERWEG 62 Nice place on the north side of the station. Lot of taps and bottles and it's member of ABT (Alliantie van bier tapperijen). |
74 /100 GALILEÏSTRAAT 24 Nieuwe locatie in Rotterdam in oude fruitloods. |
74 /100 Café Walenburg (Bar) WALENBURGERWEG 62 Visited while spending a weekend in Rotterdam. Mellow, easy going, nice staff. Fairly interesting beers. Worth while a visit. (21-9-2019). |
78 /100 HALVEMAANPASSAGE 1 Opened as an outpost in 2020 that houses a 5HL brewhouse, 10 fermenters and 10 serving tanks. The brewkit is used to make small-batch exclusives for Outpost Rotterdam customers. Also it features an awesome selection of craft beers from 18 taps of local and international brews. Like all BrewDog bars they serve food. Located in a glass-fronted corner spot behind Rotterdam's City Hall, just a stone's throw from the river. Inside it's the typical industrial feel with a large outdoor terrace and further tables down the side. Friendly staff. Typical expensive prices that you tend to find in all BD bars (so much for the "Punk" ethos). |
8 /100 Kaapse Brouwers Bottle Shop (Beer Store) NICO KOOMANSKADE 1025 Whole building appears to be getting refurb. 19D empty. Can't let you know this unless I add ratings for the empty building. |
74 /100 THOMS Underground Bar (Bar) MEENT 131-129 Visited 15/2/20 nice large restaurant with a brewery to one side about 6 of there own beers on , nice friendly staff two beers tried 1hoppy & 1 porter very nice . |
72 /100 THOMS Underground Bar (Bar) MEENT 131-129 Enjoyed our visit yesterday. Massive bar with selection of their own beers on an English menu. Long bar with high tables and chair seating. Flights of 3 beers available. Friendly helpful staff. |
62 /100 AELBRECHTSKOLK 12, DELFSHAVEN Right on the water, a little out of the way, but still just a half hour walk outside the centre. Busy in the evenings. Flights of 5 available, basically shot glasses, for €5. Beer quality was prediocre lame to mediocre. Wouldn't recommend the place for beer quality, but during daylight, it's quite a busy place. |
