“My first stop on the mainland, and a 40 minute wait to open on a Saturday morning, even though there own Facebook page stated a 11am opening only weeks previously. A very impressive collection of bottled & canned beers from the West Midlands, rest of England & Europe, but none I noticed were in fridges & also service was very lackluster & I was not able to get a itemed receipt. Overall I place well worth a stop, a got a load of beers at a decent price but I preferred my visit to Stirchley Wines immediately afterwards.“

“Been to this recently opened microbar a few times now close to Kings Norton railway station and a start to the Cotteridge and Stirchley pub scene. 4 cask ales and up to 10 keg taps available. Staff friendly and know their beer. Seating for around 12 but a few more upstairs where the toilet is located. Cash only.“

“Ah the great Cotteridge Wines, one of the very reasons to visit this area. So this place should not leave anything to be desired? Well the selection is very good. Bunch of good UK breweries like Deya, Northern Monk, Cloudwater, occasional Verdant, Neon Raptor and much more. However not that many high scored ones which are most sought after. Maybe we paid it a visit at wrong time. I expected a bit more from bottles from Kernel or Burning Sky, but they did have some interesting Durham beers. Impressive range of imported beers, especially from US. But these days you can get those cheaper from Dutch online shops, I guess we're too spoiled these days. Also some parts of the shelves were empty, not sure if we came just before a shipment. Service seemed a bit indifferent, but that might be our fault. Don't get me wrong this is a great shop, one of the best I've been to in UK, but it doesn't compare to top US shops. Certainly worth visiting.“

“I've heard about this place for years and was only able to check it out now. Upon approaching the shop, it didn't look from the outside like one of the best beer shops in England. However going inside, and looking at the many delights that awaited, I wasn't disappointed. Some amazing craft beer from all over the world, but I was especially drawn to the US bottles: Crooked Stave, Lost Abbey, Prairie and the like. Exciting stuff. The tap room was a bit cold, both in temperature and ambience, but there were quite a few good beers being sold from Mikkeller, Magic Rock, Siren and the like. A destination shop for sure.“

“The go to place to shop for beers in Birmingham. The range is always top notch, the quality of choice is so good its easy just to take a chance on a few different beers. The tap room is a nice addition, would be nice if the outdoor area has a bit of a refurb but a superb place nonetheless“

“Lucky enough to live just down the road from Cotteridge Wines. Superb selection of beer. Could spend hours there. Owners/staff leave you be to pick what you like, but are happy to help with recommendations. Little micropub/beer garden (summer) out back. Enjoy!“

“Walkable from Kings Norton railway station. Amazing bottleshop & taproom run by two brothers. Suposedly a range of over 1400 bottles. Certainly the the most comprehensive selection that I have seen in a bottleshop. I have spent over an hour perusing the selection on a good few occasions. Taproom out the back, often with some pretty interesting beers on offer.“

“Very very impressive selection with lots of locals, other UK beers and foreign beers. Most foreign beers were US. Beer garden out back. 14 taps, but only 8 were in use. Nice place to buy beers and tick right away. Friendly service.“

“This store has an amazing selection of UK beers in the middle and foreign beers on the outside. We had decided to spend an entire day here sampling bottles, which got us to around 70. We arrived at 13.00 and stayed until the outdoor serving area closed at 19.30. Even though we had this much time, and were very selective, we never made it to the foreign beers. They also have a small tap room out back, but only eight of the 14 taps were on. They have a toilet upstairs, and I must say that it is long overdue for a renovation. We were allowed to use the fridges for cooling the bottled beers, which was really nice.“

“01/05/17. Ubered here with a colleague on a lunchtime - annoyingly didn’t have time to try the tap room. Walked in, saw all the beers and instantly forgot what I was after. Whilst I wandered around picking a few beers to take back down south my colleague wandered around filling a box. I would too if I was local and single. The owners were extremely helpful, checking for a couple of beers I was after and making recommendations to me. They got extra business because my colleague then bought the beers they were point out to me. My concern a out this place is that I picked the wrong beers. Why did I put the Elusive beer back?? Next time I come up I will bring a bigger bag.“

“Been back a few times now, for ’tastings’, ’bottle shares’ and on my own: really like the place. A couple of miles down the road from Birmingham’s other ’beer geek’ shop in Stirchley, I prefer this place now. You are left alone to wander along the rows of beer to select and browse without any interference. The prices are keen and the selection different to their near competition: these guys seem to major on craft and newer UK breweries with a smaller International and traditional area. I’ll always try visit both this place and Stirchley when I need a special beer fix because between them you are going to find something you want, need or is interesting.“

“Typical Birmingham, dear city of my childhood, not to have much in the way of beer stores but to have just the one that is among the best in Britain. No prizes for displayed information but the choices are almost entirely top class or highly unusual. The tap room at the back should have its own entry, as it would pass as a micropub if it weren’t for the shop at the front.“

“Until I find out otherwise this is clearly the best beer shop in the UK. Service is absolutely top notch. For the first half hour or so I didn’t ask for any help, just geeked out and was left to it. Then I asked for a bit of help and he showed me to exactly what I was looking for. All the staff had their input too. Had a beer outside, good chat with some of the staff. Can’t speak my highly enough of this place, love it. Will go back again and again for the rest of my life.“

“Visited for Cotteridge Convention 2 on 5th March 2016. Great bottle shop about a 5 min walk from Kings Norton. Selection is excellent with a huge range of bottles from around the world and an extensive craft beer range from the UK. Add to that a bar with 8 taps dispensing brand new beers from the UK scene then what’s to be disappointed about. Staff are friendly, put up with a lot of boosted raters shopping for beer, hosted a great tasting event in the tasting room and seemed popular with the locals. A great place to go. Highly recommended.“

“What a truly spectacular selection. One side of the shop is traditional English and the other are craft breweries. Their stock shifts all the time. So quick it’s hard to keep up unless you’re around all the time or on Twitter. Nonetheless, the staff are friendly and informed. They’ve been doing this for a long time. .“

“My only visit to date was during the Cotteridge Convention, January 2015. It really lived up to the hype. From the outside it looks like any other corner shop/convenience store. Inside the front room contains a truly world-class selection of bottled beer. Excellent selection of UK-stuff including exclusives and stuff not seen elsewhere. The international selection is also pretty spectacular and contains beers from some of the best breweries in the world. Coming from London the prices are exceptional. In the back room they have nice selection of taps for growler fill and a small tasting room. The service is equally fabulous. Truly one of the best bottle shops out there.“

“Just visited last night. Superb range of beers and came away with far more than I had initially intended. Friendly staff who leave you to browse but happy to help if needed. Lots of stuff I’ve never found in UK before. Recommended 24/1/15 They now have a 14tap sample room for drinking on premises and akeaway by growler. Good prices, available in thirds, good range of UK and international beers on. Refocussed bottle selection on desirable US, Danish and UK beers (reduced Belgian/German). Bottles saved for me to pick up on the day, soon to offer mail order service“

“Came here for the Cotteridge Convention.

The selection is excellent - I picked up a couple of big wants and could easily have come away with more if space had permitted. Prices are very reasonable. Can’t fault the service either - friendly and knowledgeable and a curry thrown in for the tasting! Curry is always the way to my heart.

Definitely worth the trip from Birmingham - you could even stop off at the Cadbury factory on the way.“

“Updated review: Visited again in January 2015. Cotteridge Wines is absolutely world class. Not only is the selection of beers perhaps the best you will find in the UK, but the customer service is without peer. The new tasting room - with draft lines and growler fills - is excellent, and I am very excited to see what these guys have planned next. Cotteridge is a must-visit beer destination if you are anywhere nearby.

Original review (June 2013): An absolutely outstanding bottle shop. There are only a handful of places in the UK with selection like this place has. And the value - oh, the value! It’s fantastic. I left here with literally all I could carry. The selection includes local breweries, lots of London breweries, nice range of US micros, tons of Belgian, Scandinavian. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. This place is an definite must-visit if you are near Birmingham. Visited during the RateBeer Black Country Bash.“

“Revisited on Saturday Jan 24th for the RB Cotteridge Convention. They have now opened a taproom to the rear, 14 keg offerings, good mix of styles and solid breweries on offer - a new Magic Rock Cannonball on our visit! The room behind the taproom is a basic man cave affair with mis-match of chairs and stools that suited us admirably in the tasting the owners allowed us to stage. Loved the haunted house upstairs and the old bath in the shitter! Great guys here, Jas even cooked up a curry for the hungry hordes. Super solid bottle shop and now with a taproom ! Must visit - just 15 minutes on the train from New St to Kings Norton or a taxi direct to the city centre was just a tenner (we went straight to the Craven Arms in around 10-15 minutes). Score upped from 92 to 94. Visited on the RB Black country bash - 6th July ’13. What a cracking shop. Great range from all over the UK, plenty of new micros and hop profferers such as Partizan and Kernel. Mikkeller and De Molen pretty much had their own shelves! Good US selection, ditto Belgian. Friendly guys - big thanks to Jaz & Kal who hosted a tasting for us in the back room then waved us off. Definately worth the bus ride from the city centre. As well as finding London beers you can’t ordinarily find in London, they were also cheaper in most cases!“

“What can be said that hasn’t already been said about the world class Cotteridge Wines? There probably isn’t a better bottle shop in Europe. Period. The bottle selection in numbers is unmatched, the diversity of the beers unmatched and the prices... unmatched. Top that off with a 14 tap, fully-licensed, tasting room and Jaz and Kal have done a magnificent job, easily the hardest working people in beer. All this is topped off by having local beer expert, Roberto Ross, to guide you through your choices. You can get most beers available here quicker than London etc and obviously cheaper than anywhere. It’s hard to take it all in when entering as there’s truly is a remarkable amount of great beer. Make no mistake, this shop is not only a gem for Birmingham but for the whole of the UK, no world-wide list would be complete with out Cotteridge’s finest.“

“It’s been a real pleasure seeing this place get even better in the almost 2 years I’ve been shopping there. It already had the best selection and value of anywhere in Brum then, and its selection has grown massively since (ciders, wines and spirits, as well as huge amounts of UK, US and Euro craft). Jaz and Kal are always so friendly and helpful, plus having Roberto to guide you through the choicest picks is always a bonus. The tasting room is the icing on the cake really, it’s just a pity I moved to London right as it opened - there’s nowhere in London to rival Cotts.“

“I visited this when I was in Birmingham, it is a few minutes on foot from Kings Norton train station, which is 15 minutes from Birmingham New Street station. It looks like a standard UK off-license and feels like it too, as it functions as a kiosk and also sells mainstream pale lagers. But then you probably have the best bottle shop selection I’ve ever seen. Mikkeller, Kernel, Brew by Numbers, De Molen, Evil Twin and many more! The prices for the rarer stuff are naturally a bit higher but the UK beer is well priced. I would definitely visit again“

“The most amazing beer shop in the UK, I travel an hour and half, 80 miles to get there, all totally worth it for what is the best selection of beer in the UK at the best prices. Then to top this off its run by the most friendly enthusiastic guys, who will always go out of their way to help and serve their customers. There is also the added bonus too of the growler filling station recently installed, where you can get those really rare craft beers to take home in a fine glass growler. I will continue to do my long trek to get there, as there is not finer craft beer shop in the UK.“

“Since my initial review a couple of years ago this place has gone from strength to strength, used to think the 22 mile round trip was a trek but I’m lucky to have it this close. US and English select is amazing, often get London brews before London rater’s. Great European selection, the recent addition of a tasting room is welcome, you can try before you purchase a growler. A real destination specialist beer shop.“

The place is well sorted with a really amazing beer selection from US and from Europe. The selection of British beer is also amazing. I can just recommend this place. You will find very amazing product and some crazy things as a Mikkeller Magnum beer and some Jeroboam. The price for the beer is smart and not excessive. Really amazing place a must to visit.“

“Beyond the unassuming convenience store style frontage lies what surely must take the accolade of best bottle shop in the UK. Huge range of Mikkeller and De Molen beers, extensive high quality range of US and UK beers, I’m pretty sure there is something to tempt all comers in here. “Craft beer nirvana, the most comprehensive selection you could hope for. Friendly and knowledgeable staff provide a service second to none. Customers are kept in the loop via Twitter (they will check their stock and reserve your selections for you to boot) They have recently started selling draft beer too - today brought home my first growler (2 litre heavy glass sealed bottle) and I imagine it will be getting regular refills as they have had kegs from some of the best UK craft brewers in the recent weeks I have been visiting. Worth a considerable journey to visit - a mixed blessing when it’s on your route home from work! Cheers!“

“Rows of Craft beer from around the world constantly updating the stock. Of course the downfall of having such variety is that the lower supplies of each means select beers run out quickly. I found that many that I had picked out from their twitter feed and website had sold out. Brothers were faultless when it came to selecting and guidance. They even furnished me with a beer new in that day that wasn’t out on shelves. “

“Ok, not entirely sure if I’m allowed to add a rating as I haven’t physically been (yet!) but ordered by ’phone for a mate to collect, got a fantastic selection of beers for a lower price than virtually anywhere else I’ve seen same breweries. Really wish I had the time and the transport to visit regularly! UPDATE now been in person a couple of times, including with car so left with far more than I intended! Like a kid in a sweetshop, endless shelves of rarities and must-haves. Some of the imports are rather £££ but to be fair probably wouldn’t be any cheaper anywhere else outside country of origin. Most UK beers cheaper than elsewhere“

“A really superb shop in the unlikeliest of places – in fact if you were just passing you’d hardly notice it but it has perhaps the best selection of bottled beers I’ve seen anywhere in the country. We visited as part of the Ratebeer Black Country Bus Bash and couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome. The owners had arranged a small tasting for us in the back room and also provided some delicious food (the homemade onion bhajis were my favourite). Excellent all round, including the very competitive prices. (Visited 6 July 2013).“

“Visited during the Ratebeer Black Country Bash. Wow, what a gem of a place. Cotteridge is a pretty unassuming-looking bottle shop on the outskirts of Birmingham. Inside you’ll find a treasure trove of quality beer. Plenty of UK micros available alongside a well-curated selection of international breweries. This place has probably the largest selection of De Molen beers I’ve seen outside of Bodegraven. Quality London breweries like Partizan, The Kernel, and Beavertown were well-represented. Gems like Armand & Tommy were on sale for 12 quid. The service was kind, accomodating. Prices for the beer was great, in many cases lower than what I’ve paid directly from the brewery. Overall, a world class bottle shop. This place goes toe-to-toe with Kris Wines for best bottle shop in the UK.“

“It was going to be hard to top the visit to Stirchley Wines just around the corner but somehow they did it. The English beer aisle goes on and on including stuff from almost every region - Buxton, The Kernel, Partizan, Arbor, and more. The selection of De Molen and Mikkeller alone would be enough to put this place on any beer nerd’s radar. The icing on the cake was discovering a stash of 3F Armand for the fairly reasonable price of £35. That resulted in a few other bottles appearing which I might have seriously considered if I did not have to fly. You have no excuse to pass this place by when in Birmingham.“
