“Stopped by 6/13/21. Fairly typical Woodman's but I did find this one had a slightly large selection, BYO and otherwise. As a Woodman's, good prices and huge selection. I picked up quite a bit here. Worth a stop if you're hunting local beers or ticks.“

“This is my go to store when visiting my next door neighbor state. Conveniently located right off I-90. Selection has always been solid and good selection of beer brands that are not distributed in my home state of MN. I'm not sure if it's due to COVID or what, but the last time I stopped in the store the selection was trimmed down significantly. Still can get Wisc staples like New Glarus, Central Waters, Oso, Capital, Ale Asylum, etc. But it was missing some of the specialty beers that I normally see.“

“I don’t often add places like this, but I felt that Red Pines deserved notice. This used to be your typical Wisconsin rural bar with both kinds of beer - Bud and Miller. They now have new owners who sunk a lot into the place. They now have pretty darn good food, including Walleye and lake perch, and a solid beer list. The focus is on Midwest craft, with a bunch of Wisconsin beers and a sprinkling from Minnesota and Michigan (Founders, Surly and Bells all represented). I would say the selection is well above average for the La Crosse area, and the setting, right on the lake and out of the main drag, makes it a nice place to grab a bite and watch the ducks. This is not a world class beer destination by any stretch, but its a good place to get a good beer in God’s Country. Plus, we ran into the head brewer of Pearl Street here :)“

“This is actually a winery called Lost Island, that now also brews beer and makes cider. Its a bit hard to find. Opposite side of Theater Rd. from Dahl Ford, but well off the main street. We actually entered from the back. Smallish place with a short bar and some table seating inside, as well as a courtyard area with additional seating outside. They specialize in fruity wines, which I did not try, but also now have 4 beers on tap under the Skeleton Crew label, as well as a couple of fruited ciders in bottle under the Sandbar Cider label. Prices are very cheap, service is patient. Beers and ciders are average or a bit worse.“

“Walmart like grocery store with a dedicated liquor section inside. Good selection of local brews.“

“Best bottle shop in LaCrosse, I believe. All bombers in the cooler. Lots of TG when I stopped in (IPA bombers for $7.50 - nice!). Lots of mullets. Lots of cases of McBeer in line. Open on Sundays unlike MN stores.“

“This is surely the best of the three festival location. Same mix six area, plus a solid selection of mostly local beers. Bummer that there is no three Floyd in the area after side note closed. Lacrosse really needs a dedicated bottle shop.“

Unwine’d (Beer Store)

“Very small place that is clearly wine focused. Beer selection is limited to a couple coolers in the back witha few six packs. Nothing special. Most, if not all, available at woodmans up the road. Staff is very friendly, and i think they have beer tastings.“

“Despite being cleaner, larger, with bathrooms and more New Glarus Sesonals Than the local location of Woodman’s, this place has surlier staff and a much less impressive pick six section. I wanted to like this place more than the other store I just visited I just couldn’t.“

“Despite a location inside a grocery store, it still has that liquor store crud to it. If you park on the side, you’ll enter the store next to the liquor section. The BMC is located in the far right aisle and along the back coolers. The craft beer is along the far left aisle. I like that nearly all of their beer was refridgertated. They had a solid national craft section but what distinguishes this place is the large amount of Wisconsin craft they sell as well as a rather sizable’ refridgerated pick 6 for $8.99 which is a couple bucks less than my local charges with vastly inferior beer to select from. True they only accept debit and cash and they dont have much of a bomber section so I think this place is more good local than destination place.“

“Pretty awesome beer store for being in a grocery store. Singles for sale, lots of local WI stuff, big selection of New Glarus, including Serendipity, Raspberry Tart, and the sour and Berliner from the Thumbprint series. A couple Bruery beers, Hoppin Frog - all around solid spot. Cash or debit card only.“

“I stopped in during an overnight stay in Onalaska. They have a large selection of WI beers, much of which is under refrigeration. I especially like that they sell singles and you mix your own six pack for $8.99. The only downside is they do not accept credit cards, so bring a debit card or cash if you plan to shop here.“

“Pretty extensive collection and all of it in coolers. Nothing to unusual, but a ton of locals plus some interesting craft brews.“

“Visited Sunday afternoon. When I initially went in, I parked in the front of the store, and only wound the macro beer in the grocery area. After wandering a bit, I found the full beer / liquor store. The beer selection is good, big selection on Wisconsin beers, and most sold as singles. They had Serendipity, which was a big bonus. Overall, good service, good store. Would give the slight edge to this store over Festival simply because they sold singles rather than mix a six. Either / both are a good stop when in or passing through the La Crosse area.

70 = ★★½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Visited Sunday afternoon. The liquor store part of the larger grocery store is spacious, clean, and well laid out. The beers are straight back, as well as around the coolers of the right side of the store. Good selection of Wisconsin beers, particularly in the mix a six area. Found Belgian Red and Raspberry Tart apart from the beer, stuck in with the chilled wines. Overall, pleased with the selection. Would give the slight edge to Woodmans in Onalaska simply because they sold singles rather than mix a six. Either / both are a good stop when in or passing through the La Crosse area.

“Originally reviewed: 1/14/10. Stopped in here when in town for the holidays a few weeks back. Walking in, most of the store is all liquor and wine, but two of the four walls in the place are dedicated to beer! Most of it great beer! Almost everything there is in coolers of some sort. They had a nice section of singles to make a mixed sixer. Among those were the 3 NG Unplugged’s that are currently available. They had almost all of the NG offerings, including Raspberry Tart, and WI Belgian Red; as well as Tyranena, Capital Brewing, Central Waters, Sand Creek, Lakefront, Southern Tier, Three Floyds, Goose Island, Bell’s, etc. This was a great find! If I were in town more, this is where I would get my beer, hand’s down. Great prices, and everything is already chilled so it’s ready to go when you get home. Check this place out. I loved it.“

“Originally reviewed: 11/30/10. Stopped in here to pick up some NG fruit beers for the holidays. Up to visit family for a few days. So nice to see NG all over the shelves around here. What I wouldn’t give to get them down in NC...Walk in the front and the beer is all over the left side of the store. The entire wall is dedicated to good beer. A great selection of singles to make a mixed sixer, lots of bombers, and an extensive list of sixpacks. All the usual suspects were there, Tyranena, NG, Capital, Rush River, Central Waters, etc. Among others were some great bombers from Goose Island and Boulevard. Six packs from too many breweries to name. Nice spot for great beer. All the beer is in coolers as well, which is always nice. Everything is ready for consumption right when you get home. Prosit!“

Unwine’d (Beer Store)
9348 HIGHWAY 16
“While in town on business, all the "Buzz" was about this little wine bar called UnWine’d in this small town of Onalaska, WI. The Buzzworthiness was correct. It’s a little gem of a wine bar that also serves some of the top craft brews in the world. They have anywhere from 75-100 different choices, some only seasonal brews. I would love a little wine bar just like this in my home town. Where else can I set down to enjoy such a great selection of WI beers as well as imported craft brews in Onalaska. No Where! I just became their best "beer" and wine customer.“

Unwine’d (Beer Store)
9348 HIGHWAY 16
“(Visited 10/2010): Unwine’d is located in the Valley Square shopping plaza in Onalaska. There is a large parking lot attached to the strip mall. The inside is pretty small and you would think it was strictly a wine place from the outside (and the name). I would have walked right by it myself but they had a white board outside that mentioned beers. The beer is located in the back past the wine bar in a small cooler. As for the beers in the cooler, it is a fair selection. Bottles from Ale Asylum, New Belgium, Bell’s, Goose Island, Pearl Street, Horny Goat and New Glarus were present. As for imports there are a few Belgians including Rochefort, plus a couple other common ones from Germany and the UK. Service was decent, as the bartender was dealing with customers at the bar while I was just shopping around. Overall this place doesn’t have the selection of Woodman’s or Festival but may be a good stop for someone who wants to get in and out quickly and likes a smaller and more low-key place.“

“(Visited 10/2010): Stopped here while staying in Onalaska on a business trip to La Crosse. The store is located on SR 16 not too far off I-90. There is a large parking lot. The liquor/beer section is in its own section, with the beer being toward the left of the entrance. Much of it is in coolers, with some on shelves too. The selection at Woodman’s is pretty good. Brewers like Pearl Street, Central Waters, New Glarus regionally are represented, as are other domestic micros like Rogue, Sierra Nevada and Three Floyds. Some imports are available as well. Service was pretty friendly but nothing too out of the ordinary for a store like this. Overall this is a pretty solid spot on the outskirts of La Crosse.“

“Great place for beer! And wine, and booze, and many kinds of food except a little lacking in the higher end stuff. Prices are great. Service is decent although if you put in a special order or send them a postcard they rarely follow up on it. As for the beer: Excellent selection (especially for the La Crosse area) of import, micro, regional and macro brews. Huge selection of single bottles and six packs, all chilled and ready to go. Also a fair selection of cases and other large quantiies. I assume they have kegs, but don’t rely on that. Also they do carry seasonals and have a heavy selection of Wisconsin products.“

“Visited again an was equally impressed. Nice store, and it seems to have improved in the last year. This place had a nice selection for the area including all of the Pearl Street beers and some of the special edition Tyranena and New Glarus brews. They also had all of the regular WI micro selections. The singles were severely lacking. Nice for the area, but it probably had about half the micros of the Woodmans in Madison.“

“Wow! I was shocked. This place was sweet. Bear Republic, DFH, Three Floyd’s, New Glarus, Capital, Sprecher, and Tyreanna was all here, along with some nice imports. I don’t know how often people go to Onalaska, but this is definitely a place to hit if you’re there.“

“I’ve got to say, Woodman’s has a spectacular selection of beer. It’s pretty much like a small liquor store sitting in the middle of a big food co-op. Compared to Indiana, their prices are excellent. This place is a must-stop for me when traveling in the area.“

“Woodman's is a super market with a separate liquor store from the food area. They have an excellent selection of regional micros including all Capital, Summit, New Glarus (all 3 Unplugged beers), Sprecher, Berghoff Beers as well as many others such as a few Bells. Imports include all 3 Chimay's, Fullers, and a slew of others. The service is basically non-existent as it is a grocery store but the selection for this area is pretty decent...it will keep me coming back until i am back in Milwaukee.“
