larsga (7693) - Oslo, - APR 5, 2007
Head is just thin white ring. Almost opaque black body, just dark red at bottom. Sweet coffee and wild berries aroma, slight earth and chocolate notes. Very harmonic. Deep intense sweet earth, coffee, and wild berries taste with notes of plums and chocolate. Strong alcohol heat. Dry mild aftertaste with vanilla and licorice notes. Excellent beer, even if barley wine is a bit of a stretch. (0.1l on tap? At Popeye.)

old rating - july ’08 at popeye’s with kyotolefty; ’04 vintage on tap. dull brown with a faint hint of purple and next to no head; aroma of dried bilberries and cranberries, sherry; sticky in a luscious way, caramel, chocolate, rigs, still a decent amount of hop character, even at this vintage

Draught at Qbrick (from tasting notes). 2000 vintage. Aromas of pear and dry sherry, with some licorice, and hints of coffee. Dark coffee color, with deep dark ruby tints, and with no head at all.Flavors of pear and tropical fruit, some hop bitterness bite, sherry, cherries, dark and earthy. Very long pear and coffeeish final. A light moderate Chardonnay-like body. served too cold.

Koelschtrinker (28835) - Brewver-Town, GERMANY - MAR 16, 2012
Weicher, dunkel getreidiger Abgang. 7/1/11/9/11/11

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2011 0.33 l botte, thanks jukkabro! Dark reddish brown color. Sweet very raisiny aroma with vanilla, figs and tart fruits. Sweet flavor with lots umami: raisins, toffee and dates. Full bodied, some woodiness in the palate. Alcohol is warming and surprisingly soft. Good dessert.

(Vintage 2000) Deep dark black-red colored with vanishing light brown head. Rich berry aroma with sweet raisins, rich licorice also mild alcohol comes up, some wooden note and dark fruits here as well. Near full bodied, smooth palate. Flavor is also smooth with licorice, raisins, some wooden, even vanilla note here, vinous note lasts in aftertaste with thin alcohol. Excellent one.

Bottle, vintage 1999, shared with Per (thanks!). Extremely dark red body, almost black, brownish, off white small head, went relatively fast. The age is obvious in the nose, strong, malty, polleny, but somewhat creamy, light strawberry yoghurt. The taste picks up on that, a superb fruity note, let’s call it "blueberry", holding on in there until the alcohol washes it away. Ok, if this is like this after 12 years, how wild was it at first? Great to have tried this, really interesting beer!

30th July 2011>br>ChrisOs ’Donkey Dork Lord’ Pre-GBBF Tasting. Cheers Mark! Dark broen beer. Residual tan head. Rich toffee nose. Light dry palate. Rich dark toffee with a nice touch of subtle red fruits and a drop of brandy. Warming without being spirity. Very nice!
