COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulf Porter is the first beer of the year in our Brewer\’s Choice Series. Carefully brewed with select malts, oats, and hops. We rely on the yeast to provide the spicy note and the rich character of the beer. With warm notes of toffee, coffee, and a little chocolate this porter is a beautiful beer. Sure to spark a lively discussion on the finer points of Southern living.

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2018 Smell is of some dark fruits and maybe very light alcohol...taste is dark and roasted malt...not too bitter but can see it being a problem as it warms...good depth of flavor, good mouth feel of lactose...finish is a touch bitter...

On tap. Quick note.....all the 2011 and earlier ratings of this that mention thin bodied be aware this is a different beer. Heavier malt bill after the law changed in Mississippi, which helped it for the better. Pours dark ruby almost black with a one finger meringue head. Caramel nose, good body, light bitterness other than from the roast. Toffee and chocolate candy. One of the better this brewery makes.

Comes out of the tap a dark chocolate brown with a fairly thick tan head. Aroma has roast malt, coffee and caramel notes. Strong flavor has malty, chocolaty, roast coffee, and subtle caramel notes. Firm body is thicker than the average porter.

S: Very faint.... maple. Tiny bit coffee but barely anything. A: Looks ok I guess. Dark brown. Little head. Little retention. T: Like the smell very faint. A bit of coffee. Dry. A hint of spice. A hint of malty candyness or so. Have to work hard to get much of anything. M: Very dry. Dull bitter finish. Light Overall this is an ok beer. Little is wrong but little is right. Almost like drinking a water.

Good porter. Pours a very dark brown almost black with a quick forming head. Good lacing. Good taste/ not too smoky. I’m not one for the porters that taste like they’ve been a barrel for ages. This one is good.

A wonderful and full bodies porter. What this one lacks in depth it makes up in being a near ideal specimen of what makes a tasty porter great for the winter months ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

We had this beer at the 2013 Tops of the Hops in Biloxi, MS. We are always ecstatic to try a new Lazy Magnolia beer; we like to root for the home team. I enjoyed this new stout. Rob, confessed that it was "too stout" for him.

Sampled at an esbls tasting. Dark brown with deep red. Chocolate and roast aromas. A thin feel. Powdery malts with coffee flavors. Ok atbest.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2013 growler. near black with a large, foamy, tan head. dark fruity roasted aroma minus chocolate. flavor is nutty, oddly nutty, with floral hops that are quite strong considering the color of this, but in no way bitter. the roastiness just doesn’t come through. i would have called it a brown ale with lots of english EKGs with my eyes closed. light bodied. its a nice beer, i kind of like the fresh floral notes. i possibly get a little basement dust sometimes.

Excellent porter. Thick chocolaty head with hints of caramel, chocolate and toffee in the aroma. Very well balanced taste. A big winner from Lazy Magnolia.
