COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask & Bottle Conditioned, regularity unknown;
Brewed with wood smoked malt and traditional hops. An Gof Ale commemorates the blacksmith from St Keverne who led the Cornish rebillon of 1497 against Henry VII's unfair taxes. Following the defeat in London by the Kings Army An Gof was hung, drawn and quartered on Tyburn Hill. Defiant to the last he declared from the scaffold that he and his followers would share "a fame permenant and immortal".

theprof (4295) - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, ENGLAND - SEP 12, 2023
UPDATED: SEP 12, 2023 Bottle. Pours copper amber almost chestnut body off white foam head. Aroma of roasted malts and berry fruits. Taste is medium sweet to bitter with some more hedgerow berries at the front and a definite bitter finish. Medium bodied, slightly sticky texture, average carbonation and a drying bitter finish. Overall, it's not a strong ale I will seek out, although looking at other reviews it seems to be better if you get it fresh rather than bottled.

UPDATED: JUN 12, 2022 Panda at home, thanks to Danlo, 12/06/22. Deep amber to chestnut brown with a light beige covering that dissipates to a swirl and edgeing. Nose is dried fruits, toffee, dates, sugars, brown bread, hint of berry fruits. Taste comprises fruit cake, brown sugar scattering, brown bread, light spice, hedgerow, toffee, dates. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close with a modest bitter edge. Respectable enough strong ... not sure why only scoring 2.87?

UPDATED: JUL 22, 2020 Bottle from Purely Cornish. Appearance - deep copper to red. Slightly off white head. Nose - light prune and glace cherry in amongst a general caramel and cake situation. Taste - Highland toffee, prunes more so this time. Honey and raisins. Palate - medium bodied at least. Sweet nmiddle with just enough malt bitterness on the finish to just about make it drinkable. Overall - decent.

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2019 Bottled, 500ml from Good Life, Polperro, Cornwall. Copper to chestnut with cream head. There is an over ripe plummy character to this, a touch boozy, a touch fusty. Sweet, slightly nutty, slightly souring. Heavy on the palate. Just okay really.

FoamRater25 (3) - - FEB 27, 2019 does not count
UPDATED: FEB 27, 2019 Always found good and pleasurable but being a ex Lizard dweller i may be biased. Picked up a couple of bottles from St Keverne shop whilst visiting family. Great colour but weak head. I like the caramel malty nature and fruity tones ans goes down well. Doesn't 'feel' like a 5% ale but to me its ok alround.

Very muddy, very ripe, very old school. Falls into the ‘home brew’ category of beers (lol) but then, teasingly, from within the malted bog, out comes a strange sweetness, almost a mix of toffee and brown sugar. Enough to keep my drinking, but not enough to convince me repeat, I don’t think. An odd one. 500ml bottle from some off license in Lizard, Cornwall.
