This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Miły (321) - Kielce, POLAND - MAY 14, 2019
UPDATED: MAY 14, 2019 Bottle date 21.04.2017r. Wygląd: Barwa czarna, nieprzejrzysta z średniej wysokości puszystą, drobnopęcherzykową brązową pianą, która opada do sporego pierścienia nie pozostawiając lacingu. Aromat: Bardzo złożony. Czekolada deserowa i trochę gorzkiej, kakao, praliny belgijskie, kawa mocha, ciemny karmel, biszkopt, skórka chleba i subtelny palony akcent. Średnie estry wiśniowe, soku wiśniowego i nut rodzynek.

UPDATED: APR 15, 2019 My last purchase at De Bierkoning before leaving Amsterdam is Black Albert, 2016 vintage. I am thrilled to locate it. I open the 33 cl bottle and pour into the best available glass. It arrives a tuxedo black finished by a heroic mahogany brown head. I lift for a smell to find cocoa, fresh bread and strawberries. A drink at last, oh my, I should have bought two bottles. There is dark chocolate, chocolate malt, dark fruit, a woody presence, berries, some toffee, and a wrap-around bitterness. Very deep and complex. Comparable to the best from the states.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2019 Fat hos Reza. Doft av körbär o fint mjöl o en fin doft av lagring. Smaken balanserad med först en känsla av något starkvin kan det vara Marsala vin? Sedan en fin smak av lite choklad med kaffe o sedan en krämig fin avslutning. God men lite annorlunda.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2019 Bottle, vintage 2016. Totally black color with some brown against the light, with a huge creamy brown head, slowly disappearing. Aroma is coffee, very roasted malts, honey (intense). Taste is dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, tobacco. There is bitterness, not too much but there is. Full bodied, viscous texture, this is one of those chewy beers. I expected a kick while sipping it, instead it was very well balanced, obviously you can feel some alcohol warmth, but it's really well balanced. Great beer, enjoyable until the last drop.

jarvo (391) - Abingdon, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - MAR 16, 2019
UPDATED: MAR 16, 2019 Near black, lasting tan head. Big aroma of dark malt, burnt chocolate and coffee. All of which are very apparent in the taste, which is actually slightly too roast for me, with the alcohol a little too forward. Full body. Excellent if a little full on.

snowcrash000 (707) - Cologne, GERMANY - MAR 9, 2019
UPDATED: MAR 9, 2019 Pours a pitch black coloration with a medium, fizzy head. Smells of roasted, caramel malt and notes of chocolate and dark fruits, as well as a light flowery hoppy note. Taste is dominated by roasted, caramel malt, licorice and dark fruit: fig, raisin, plum, as well as notes of chocolate, coffee, toffee and leather, with hints of vanilla and a certain flowery hoppy note that seems a little out of place, as well as some light booze coming through. Finishes with a light bitterness and some roasted malt and flowery hop notes lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a rich body and medium carbonation. I would enjoy this a lot more if it wasn't for that slightly flowery hop note that I can't stand in Stouts, but it still does have some very nice roasted malt and coffee notes as well as dark fruits licorice, leather, chocolate and a good balance of sweet and bitter/roasted notes.
