jbruner	4.1 Dogfish Head Temporal Abyss Pours a deep brownish black from the bottle with bubbly tan ring of foam that dissipates to wispy cap on the way down, leaving light lace and slight legs on the glass. Aroma of big dark baker's chocolate and molasses malt notes, vanilla from the bean and the barrel tannins, toasted coconut flesh from the adjunct and the bourbon barrel, hints of wet tobacco and soy sauce oxidation on the back end. Taste is moderately sweet from the booze and adjuncts, light bitterness peaks through from the acrid roast malt, warmth on the way down and moderate viscosity. Unexpected moderate abv adjunct barrel stout from Dogfish Head, but very nicely put together. Monday, May 27, 2024

radagast83	3.8 Dogfish Head Mid-90s Microbrewery Red Ale Poured an amber color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was caramel malt, toffee. However, it's not as malty as I expected it to be given the era. Probably due to fresh hops and not the earthy, boring hops that would probably have been used during that era and into the mid 00s. Really vibrant yellow-orange color, with a light orangish head, decent size. Aroma was huge mandarin orange, very light mango. Flavor was light tropical fruit, mandarin orange. Sweet, big citrus. jgb9348	4.1 Dogfish Head Nordic Spring Very hazy, almost fully opaque, raw honey coloured, light blonde body with a thick, four to five centimetre tall nice tan head that fades moderately quickly with a 95 per cent opaque glow - nice! Aroma of oranges, light curacao, alcohol, light flowers, some strong gin notes and a good deal of fresh hops - very nice in the nose! Medium-bodied; Very strong and floral, grassy, perfumey notes show up front with pine, juniper berries, lemons, spruce and dry cleanser noticeable with some enjoyable sweetness (from citrus fruits, it seems) at the end and some noticeable alcohol, too. Aftertaste is crisp, clean, dry, but somehow full of complexity, much more than most IPAs, especially in the ~7 per cent ABV range, with a nice layer of sweetness, a good malt backbone and the dry, bitter and complex hop bite that persists throughout. Overall, a very nice fresh, super clean IPA that was much better than I expected - perhaps the best DFH beer I've had in YEARS and I was just at the brewery in Lewes/Rehoboth Beach, Delaware a few months ago! I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Trader Joe's [grocery] in Skyline (Falls Church), Virginia on 07-February-2023 for US$2,17 with a 'best by?' date of June 2023 on the bottom of the can and sampled at my house here in Washington on 12-April-2023. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy juicy bittersweet flavor with a moderate to heavy sour citrus bittersweet finish of medium to long duration. solar	3.3 Dogfish Head Raison D'Extra Found this gem complete with dust on the bottle tucked away on a shelf at JR's Beer Warehouse near Pittsburgh, PA. Bottled 1/11/19. Plenty of pep on opening. Nose of rum raisin, prunes and a bit of yeast duskiness. Pours medium brown with nice off white head that clings to the rim. Stays around, nice legs. Taste of raisins, prunes, figs, sherry. Belgian quad profile. A bit thinner than expected. ABV clocks in around 16 - 20% (nobody seems to know) but 5 years of aging mellows this brew... there is no hot alcohol burn. This is a sipping beer, like a fine port with a bit of soft carbonation. Finish is dry and balanced for a sweet beer. Be aware: powerful alcohol content. A brilliant confection of a brew and totally YUM. Update: having bought a 4 pak there is inconsistency between the bottles as to aging. One was fine, the other murky and turbid with many loose bits of sediment and an off putting yeast twang to the taste. The head receded quickly, like a cola. I tossed it out. Buyer beware as to 1/11/19 bottling date for this brew. I have lowered my rating accordingly. Sunday, April 14, 2024
