Tony is doing a startup in Langley called Trading Post Brewing.

No idea who’s at Old Abbey now.

For those who like pumpkin beers I understand Howe Sound has a limited release Smoked Pumpkineater

John B Pub has it apparently. I would probably like this, so maybe I’ll check Devil’s Elbow.

Yes, John B does have it, that’s the reason I know about it

Twin Sails in Port Moody just opened their doors for a soft opening. With the BA Smoked Porter at Moody Ales, I wish I had the chance to get out to Port Moody today, but it’s not to be.

Just when leaving the office on Friday, as I had a few hours to kill, I decided to spend them in Port Moody ;-)

Three of theirs beers are decent, but the Pilsner is more than that, really promising; I hope they will keep the quality up and will check it again (also to see how it travels when it will appear in Vancouver).

I have some doubts about their strategy though; when I made a remark about all their beers being German inspired, they told me that Yellow Dog and Port Moody are too close and they already brew ales (and probably don’t want to step on their toes).
I don’t think that’s really sustainable. We’ll see...

Is Pilsner no longer a beer category?

Yeah, some of those are funny. Red Truck IPA? S&O over Persephone Oktoberfest? Nothing against S&O, but Persephone crushes lagers in a way nobody in BC does. Well, most competitions have a couple of howlers, so I guess that’s not too surprising.

But hey, nobody asked me to sit on the panel. Who needs the most experienced judge in the province anyway?

As for what CapFlu said, that baffles me as well. Pilsner is an area where BC brewers are really getting the job done - Persephone has two beauties, Pott’s Pils, Four Winds...if anything needs a category at the BC Beer Awards it’s pilsner.
