Buxton Over Exposed!
Can. HOTM online. Opaque medium gold. Decent Buxton swede. Squeezed orange up front. Some oaty notes. Touch of earthy hop leaf. Taste has the customary Buxton bitterness with a wheaty sweetness. Medium body feels a touch flabby. Fine carbonation. Pithy bitter finish. Not a deal going off here, and I could very well be wrong obvs, but I get the feeling this is a re-badged beer.

Subtle dark fruits Appearance: Pours an opaque deep brown colour (almost black) with a dense and foamy beige coloured head that has rather good retention and leaves average lacing. Taste: Similar to the nose with a moderate bittersweet flavours of roasty malts, coffee, dark chocolates and woody, herbal hops bitterness plus moderate burnt toast bitterness. The hoppiness and bitterness increases at the end. Palate: Medium body with a slightly oily texture. Moderately-low carbonation. 26-04-2024; can; at home (bought at Systembolaget, Karlstad, Sweden). The beer looks delicious. It is a nice and dark brew. The beer is a very dark reddish brown, approaching black. In the light a lovely reddish glow can be seen. On top there is a thick layer of frothy fine brown foam. Foam retention is average-high. A thick drape and fine lacing are left. It looks delicious. The aroma of the beer is also lovely. Malts give amazing aromas of roast and toast. There is caramel and some dried fruits. Lovely chocolate and coffee, some dried tobacco leaves. It is all there. Hops give nice robust earthy and leafy aromas. The yeast brings some slight fruity notes. The coffee and chocolate aromas are delicious and robust. They really give the beer character. The taste of the beer is delicious too. Sweet malts and sweet alcohol, bitter roast and hops, a slight savory toast note. The beer is very well balanced. Amazing. The mouthfeel of the beer is great too. Medium-full body, rather high carbonation and silky smooth texture. Nicely done. The finish has some amazing chocolate and coffee notes and some nice alcohol warmth in the back. All in all it truly is an amazing brew. I approve!

Bottle. Buxton online. For a big hitter it pours surprisingly clear and light. Sits in the glass a little more viscous with a leggy and lasting super sticky beige foam. Nose has fudge chocolate and toffee. Boozy wet oak. Nicely fruity too. Bit of a blackberry thing, unexpectedly. Taste is sweet and caramel like, with a little oaky bitterness. Slick and easy to drink given the ABV. In fact it’s nowhere to be seen. Caramel and a bit of vanilla oak to finish. Impressively scary easy drinking.

Buxton Monsal Mild
0,44L can (4.5%, and a different label inspired by Monsal's Headstone Viaduct) bought at Buxton Brewery Tap House & Cellar, Buxton, UK. Aroma: Moderate malt aromas of nutty, toasty, caramel, toffee and grainy characters. Moderately-low light roasted malts and chocolate notes. Low herbal and earthy hops. Appearance: Pours an opaque dark brown colour with a very persistent, foamy and tall tan coloured head that leaves quite a lot of lacing. Some sediments at the bottom of the glass. Taste: Moderate maltiness of toasty, nutty, caramel and toffee. Moderate-low sweetness of chocolate, plums, raisins and dried dark fruits. Low earthy and herbal hop bitterness with moderate dark-fruity esters. Hop bitterness increases slightly when beer turns warmer. Palate: Medium body with a somewhat chewy body. Medium-low carbonation. Finish is slightly sweet, but not cloying, with light toasty, toffee and nutty malts plus subtle dark fruits flavours linger. Overall: A really lovely and splendid mild that is as good as the breathtaking view of Monsal Dale. All-rounded characters and excellent drinkability. Might just be my second Buxton's favourite after their Trolltunga Sour. Beautiful can art, too! I wish more breweries could try on this rarer but characterful styles so that these traditional styles of beers that build the foundation of modern craft beers will not be forgotten.

Buxton Rain Shadow 2023 Single Barrel (Rum)
Bottle picked up online from Buxton webshop and got it sent to Dad's. Had this sat in Frank at Swimming Pool car park, Freyung Thursday 18th April 2023 after a meal and beers at Lang Bräu Freyung Bräustüberl (ok meal nothing special). Pours black, head swiftly departs, this is very smooth. It's a little bit bit boozy but not overly so, despite not being the biggest fan of rum cask beers, this isn't too bad. It's more subtle than others, certainly not in yer face, slight thickness in the mouth. Chocolate and a little vanilla there is also some sweet liquorice. Very nice.

Buxton Cavern Helles
0,44L can (as Cavern gluten-free Lager and new label) bought at Buxton Brewery, Buxton, UK. Aroma: Moderate grainy, doughy and bready malt. Moderately low biscuity malts. Moderate floral and herbal aromas with light lemony note. Appearance: Pours a clean bright yellow-golden colour with a medium persistent frothy white head that leaves quite a lot of lacing. Taste: Moderate floral, herbal hop bitterness. Light maltiness of grainy and doughy tastes. Low to moderate malty sweetness. Palate: Light body with a moderately high carbonation. Finish is semi-dry with a moderate husky, grainy and herbal bitter and astringent note in the aftertaste, and slight minerality. Overall: A fine and light lager though there are many better and more refined examples of this style out there, and certainly much better Buxton's beers. The husky astringency is the major flaw that prevents it from being a more drinkable and pleasant lager.

0,44L can bought at Buxton Brewery, Buxton, UK. Aroma: Medium-high hoppy and sweet fruity aromas of tropical fruits (mango, pineapple, candied orange), citrus and peach. Moderate candied lemon and lime. Light candy floss aroma, too. Appearance: Pours a hazy golden orange colour with a medium-tall soapy white head that has pretty good retention and leaves quite a lot of lacing. Taste: Medium-low hop bitterness of citrus peel, grapefruit and light pine. More dominant lemony and limey flavour with a more prominent floral and sweet tropical fruit esters (like peach and melon) sweetness, especially towards the end. Palate: Medium body with a slick texture. Medium carbonation with a slightly sweet, tropical and floral finish, plus light to moderate citrus rind, grapefruit peel and herbal bitterness at the end. Semi-dry finish. Overall: Yet another fresh, tropical and balanced hazy IPA produced by Buxton, this time paired with Nottingham’s Neon Raptor. Not really familiar with Neon Raptor’s hazy IPA (only drank Retro Racer once), but I guess this one is more towards Buxton’s Axe Edge in terms of flavour profile, and probably fermented with Buxton’s house yeast, too. Nevertheless, a great beer collaborated by two equally excellent East Midlands' breweries.
