3.4 Cottrell Incredibly Pretentious Ale 12 ounce can. Number one with a bullet. Orange gold color. Rocky beige head. Nice lacing. Piney hop aroma hints at mint and spring onions. Slightly toasted malt flavor is quickly overpowered by a rush of dank resiny hops. Intensely bitter peppery notes. Dank and more dank. Astringent dry finish and aftertaste. Friday, April 9, 2021

2.7 Cottrell Glory Drank from can. Not sure of it wants to be a NE IPA with the fruitty notes or a planner with the lighter body and low hops. Decent drink, just not what I expected when I went for the oils. Thursday, July 2, 2020

3.1 Cottrell Old Yankee Ale This is a backlog rating from 2012 from a bottle shared by Tmoney99, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time, work and/or family. Words to describe this beer are toasted malts, caramel, mild hops. Friday, September 13, 2019

2.6 Cottrell Can'n Porter Pours reddish black with a thick creme head. Aroma of toasted malt. Taste is nutty and dominated by toasted malt influence. Palate contains a roasted dark note that lingers on the back of the tongue. Average porter. Wednesday, April 3, 2019

2.6 Cottrell Old Yankee Ale New England Run Sample #4.. I wasn't feelin' this that much. I see it got some good reviews, but seemed just average to me. We went to a lunch place in Providence where you can bring your own beer (which don't exist where I live), so maybe having this paired with Asian food drinking it out of the bottle wasn't the best idea. But still, I'd figure something would stand out....just eh. Tasted and seemed more like a lager. My next review (Geary's) will describe more of what I was looking for. I may give this a 2nd chance, but probably not unless choices are limited. Btw...beer is expensive up here! Tuesday, April 24, 2018

3 Cottrell Mystic Bridge IPA I guess this is considered a New England style IPA. Lacking hops,...almost a pale ale where I'm from. Has a light orange to mild copper appearance. A little more yeasty flavor than the typical west coast or tropical style. Not much citrus/pine...toned down a bit...ok for seafood pairings. Kind of boring though and not really one I'd return to. 3 Cottrell Perry's Revenge The appearance was a murky dark orange close to brown color with a cap of a little white foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Not much lace. The aroma had some sweet malty tones of caramel/toffee, light nuts, some herbal to grassy hop character and ended with a little bit of earthiness. The flavor was malty dry sweet with the herbal and earthy components trying to blend but mostly stayed somewhat separated. Lingering aftertaste of the maltiness. Long malty finish. The palate was between light and medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt low but expected. ABV felt secure and expected. Overall, pretty decent beer to me as it seemed clean, but also didn’t have the peat or smoke I normally associate with the style, so that kinda takes a little bit of a hit. Friday, June 2, 2017

3.1 Cottrell State Line IPA This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance had a dark golden semi-hazy color with a sly transparency about it. Some carbonation could be seen rising. Small white head quickly dissipated with no lacing. The aroma balances between some citrus, pine and caramel. Then some breadiness and orange zest cleanly moves in. The flavor takes the previously mentioned aromas to cleanly build a soft sweet feature sliding over a nice bitterness. Balanced semi-sweet aftertaste yields the same sort of finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Moderate carbobation. Sly lacing. Overall, pretty good old school styled AIPA that I could come back to if I see it. Maybe not really one to seek out, but good enough for what it is. Tuesday, January 10, 2017

2.6 Cottrell Old Yankee Ale Picked this up at the brewery. Pours a clear amber color with a thick, slightly off white head. A minute later it’s gone leaving minimal lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate, harvest, and cocoa. Medium bodied. Flavor is of malts, chocolate, caramel, dry hops, and some earthiness. Leaves a roasted, burnt, malt chocolate finish. Meh. 3 Cottrell Old Yankee Ale Taster pour at Craft Beer Race New Haven. Appearance is hazy light brown (like a cider) with ring of head, mild lacing and sparkle. Aroma is bready malt. Taste is malt dominant biscuit/cracker with some caramel. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with average texture, soft carbonation and finish like taste. Overall, not bad by any means but pretty pedestrian. Friday, August 5, 2016

3.7 Cottrell Perry's Revenge 12 ounce bottle. Very dark with just a little red. A tan ring. Rich fruity malts in the aroma. Dark fruit, very rich malts, and toffee are all tasted early. It is kind of like a fruit cake and it is a bit bready. Also a little like chocolate covered cherries. A dry bitterness begins to emerge and is somewhat a chemical effect. A good winter warmer of a beer. Wednesday, October 21, 2015

3.1 Cottrell State Line Handcrafted Amber Ale Bottle, 12oz. A lightly hazy dark golden to amber colored beer with a small, off-white head. The aroma is lightly caramel-ish, with some nuts, bread and a little fruity touch. The flavor has the same caramel, nuts and bready, but it’s more like a piney, citrus zesty hoppyness with a little bitterness added. It’s full to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Long caramel and fruity finish. Far from superb, but it drinks easy. Would like most things more pronounced though. 150610 Wednesday, June 10, 2015

2.9 Cottrell State Line IPA Bottle. It’s a hazy, dark golden beer with a small, dense, off-white head. The aroma is rather malty, with a citrusy, piney touch and some caramel. It’s full-bodied, soft and quite dry on the palate. It’s quite bitter, with caramel sweetness, some generic fruityness and a touch of pine cones and orange zest. Long bitter and fruity finish. Not the best beer I’ve had, not much IPA-ish either. 150608 Monday, June 8, 2015
