vjohans (765) - SWEDEN - JUL 4, 2015Bottle 33cl. Vintage 2012
Alcohol, coffee, wood, vanilla, brown blackish tanned minimal head. Heavy sweet, light bitter, medium to light body, long finish. The regular imperial Stout is better, this is unbalanced an the barral aging does not benefit the beer at all.
arminjewell (9756) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - APR 12, 2015Pour out of bottle, thanks Aaron! Thick black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of big dark fruit, anise, some oaky tones with a hint of bourbon, slight vanilla with some sweet molasses, dark chocolate. Taste was a mix of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts into a bit of dark fruit, lots of anise, slight oak, sweet fruits into some vanilla, finishing sweet. Liked the original better, not much of the barrel in this.
bytemesis (15347) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - FEB 10, 2015Bottle with thanks to _angst_. Pours clear ruby mahogany - really light for an impy, small tan head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving decent lacing. Aroma is roasty, with bourbon, vanilla and ashtray notes. Flavor is medium sweet and medium bitter, roasty with a bit of dark fruits and anise. Light body, smooth. This is a good American Strong Ale, not sure I would call it an imperial stout.
hackobock (4073) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - NOV 23, 2014October 17, 2014. On tap at Akkurat, 2012 vintage. Pours black with a small brown head. Aroma is sweet licorice, chocolate, wet wood, dark fruits. Taste is medium sweet caramel and licorice, light to medium dark chocolate bitterness. Medium body, rounded mouthfeel, soft carbonation.
Frode (383) - Oslo, NORWAY - NOV 15, 2014Bottle 33 cl.
Hazy brown, tan. Alcoholic, roasted malt. Medium sweet, dry bitter finish.
stoutnick (847) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - AUG 15, 2014Bottle thanks to _angst_. Thank you! Pour is very thin, murky brown and muddy. Aroma is pretty multi-faceted - classic scandanavian imperial stout - vinous and winey with a port like aspect. Candied fruits makes this smell like a belgian strong. Taste is the same; not overly stouty. Very thin. Abv is well hidden. Lots of dark fruits, red wine, minor booze. Is this really a bourbon barrel aged beer? Overall, a nice drinker, but very belgian strong in body and flavours.
