Allagash Dubbel Reserve boasts a dark malty taste. The finish is dry with subtle hints of chocolate and nuts. With time, Allagash Dubbel Reserve will mature in the bottle and acquire distinctive port and sherry characteristics.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2020 The caramel and the roast malt actually left a really soothing and nice after taste.

One of the nice parts of traveling out of town is getting to locate brews not available at home. A trip this summer to Chicago to watch the Cubs put up the W flag included a visit to a seedy liquor store that, inexplicably, had a couple of bottles of Allagash Dubbel on the shelf. I purchased one (bottled on 7/1/15), brought it home and am now opening for a taste on a cool, autumn, Friday evening. I pull the cork out of the 750 ml bottle and pour aggressively into my Buffalo Bayou snifter. I find a tall, sepia colored, finely bubbled head on top of a mahogany brown-amber body. I give it a smell, yeast, yellow raisin and biscuit. But it is a tasting after all. I take a drink and taste and find, oh my, caramel, toast, berry, malt, yellow fruit and something earthy. All of it quite subtle, easy drinking. There is some nice lacing as I take it down. I understand Dubbel is no longer available. Shame.

Bottle purchased from Whole Foods in San Carlos in May 2017. Bottling date of 04/19/16. Pours a warm medium reddish brown with a pillowy light tan head. Lovely aroma of caramel, toffee, malty goodness, some plum notes. Tastes of plums and caramel, with a dry finish of toasted nuts and oak. Alcohol is noticeable but not overpowering.

750 mL bottle. Pours an opaque reddish-brown color with a thick off-white cap of foam. Aroma is of yeast, malt and a little alcohol. Medium-full body. Flavor is a nice combination of malt and yeast with just a touch of sourness. Finish is a little sweet and sour. Excellent beer!

Allagash did a great job with this Dubbel. A wonderful malty flavor. Alcahol is pretty up front from the first sip. It gets more interesting and complex if allowed to warm up a little. Cheers! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Great carbonation. Dark brown body. Dark fruits and banana really come through. This beer was a little old but still held uo to the test of time. Very drinkable.

Apple aroma. Off-white head that lingers. Restrained flavors with a lively and active finish. Not as good as the Trippel.

2016/11/30 - Pours a hazy amber brown colour with a thin off white head that quickly reduces and leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel, doughy yeast, red grapes, figs, plumbs and light molasses. Taste is toffee, dark fruits (figs, plumbs) and yeast with earthy and nutty notes. Mouthfeel is medium, with sharp carbonation and a dry, bittersweet finish. Not my favorite Allagash beer, but still very drinkable.

Bottle from Canal’s Bellmawr shared with Joe and Stash. Pours a hazy brown color with an off white medium head. Smell is dark malt, cherry, wood, belgian yeast and fresh baked bread. Flavor was prunes, fig, dark cherry, oak, and chocolate malt. Medium bodied. Tastes stronger than the alcohol percentage Enjoyable
