huh, a new brewery that slipped under the radar. Pocock Brewing in Santa Clarita (someone already added the place and listed a beer).

Novo Brazil is pretty big for a start up. My guess is about as big as Green Flash before they moved. At least four partners, each with a lot of money. One sold a portion of a large Brazilian brewery to Anheuser for $43 million. Not sure how much they’re into this place for but at least a million or two, and they’re still building. They’ve got a film crew here right now and a lot of beautiful people making some kind of commercial.

Oh, the beer is alright. 15 taps.

So apparently they’re filming a promo for some Facebook app called Zip or something like that. Kind of put my footnin my mouth when they told me to go try it out when I said I generally don’t download a bunch of garbage apps to my phone

I met one of the owners the other day - to say there is money in this endeavor would be a massive understatement.

Also, thanks for all your hard work on this thread. It may not be read by many, but this shit is super interesting to me.

I’ve had this only semi realistic goal for most of a decade now to visit every brewery in CA south of some arbitrary line in the sand (I chose the south end of the Golden Gate Bridge so as to avoid Sacramento and Tahoe). So a lot of this is for my own OCD, but the reporting and picture taking and such is for everyone’s benefit. Now I just need to bring myself to backlog several hundred place ratings again...

That is a massive goal, given the growth over the last 2-3 years. I had similar goals, but just within San Diego County. I have failed miserably (thanks wife and kids) but I forge on....

I’m down into the mid 30s right now for breweries left to visit. Once or twice a month the list shrinks by 5 or 6 but every week or so another one gets added. Will have to check the weather closely, if it isn’t snowing in Mammoth by mid November I’ll take 395 and hit the three breweries up there next month. That still leaves a couple of other places that I’ll really have to go out of my way for (as in not passing through for some other reason)

like this place waaaay out in the desert on the NV border

and the one on Catalina

Still have yet to go to Kern River too...

Stopped in Santa Clarita on the way home last night and checked out Pocock Brewing. They’ve got a pretty large startup for a family business, maybe a 20 bbl system. They have a silent partner (friend of the family) and wouldn’t say just how much money was put into the place. Right now they have 7 beers on tap and already have a crowler machine, so they know what they’re doing. Beer is alright. I wont be driving from Riverside but it IS the last stop on 5 before 250 miles of nothing in the central valley...

While there I ran into the people doing Transplants Brewing in Palmdale. They’re going to start brewing in the next couple weeks, so they should be open by the end of the year. Kind of funny talking to them because they know a lot of the people I knew in my beeradvocate days (don’t remember the screen names but Mark and Gloria Delgado, Eric Sena, Charles Mumford, that whole LA crew).
