“Really cool vibe, built into a second-run movie theater and keeps the decor. Open, kitschy vibe. Friendly staff, but they don't hover. Really good selection of local Pittsburgh beer, good regional selections and nice international flavor.“

“The old pub location in Charleroi on Washington ave seems to be no longer open to the public. However, this is where I now find the 4 Points brews on lots of taps, north side of Pgh, near the stadium and ballpark. It's always difficult to find free parking in Pgh. However, if you're drinking here, bartender says you can park in their side lot for free which can be accessed from the alley behind the pub. Stopped in here on a saturday afternoon, a friendly easy to find location. Quick personal service. Even tho they don't pour flights, they serve half drafts of any beer for a somewhat affordable price. Very clean dedicated brewer ambiance. Good solid well tapped bar up front and lots of tables back in the second room. Bartender was very friendly and answered all the questions in a concerned manner. It looks like these guys take their brewing seriously, seems to be a professional art for them. The 3 drafts I had there were some of the best in the burgh!“

“A bar with a limted number of tables, and a larger attached/industrial-like space that's used for live performances, which is the main reason I came here. The service varies, from the jerk with glasses in the smaller room to the quite helpful guy behind the bar in the larger room. Food was pretty good. The beer was pretty good but nothing outstanding. With all of the other options in Pittsburgh, I wouldn't return here unless there was another band I want to see.“

“Located in an area that's fine during the day but I wouldn't venture here at night. The space is a quite spacious and beautiful former church with plenty of seating. TIP: if you go on the weekend, go early to avoid a crowd. Most of the beers in my flight were quite good, and the entree-sized salad I had was well above average. I would defintely come here again on a future trip to Pittsburgh.“

“There is an attached bar/restaurant called The Getaway--go in the front, turn left for McNeilly's, right for The Getaway, which isn't anything special. McNeilly's has a good selection of stuff, a lot of which is available as singles, as well as a small area where you can drink. BUT: the prices are hyperexpensive. They charge as much for each beer as you would if you were buying an individual can or bottle at a bar for consumption, with no discount for buying in a six pack. Since the selection isn't that much better than the Giant Eagle Market District on Centre Avenue, avoid this place and go there instead.“

“Located on very busy street, with parking that's ample but it's still a hassle to get in and out. Employee vary from friendly to total assholes. If you're familiar with Giant Eagle's larger Market District locations, you know pretty much what to expect. Strangely enough, The Market District locations in the Pittsburgh area are the only ones where you can build your own six packs. Very good selection of regional stuff. The $13.99 price is a little steep but not out of line with prices in a lot of places in the Pittsburgh area., and certainly much more reasonable than the wildly overrated McNeilly's. If you have, like I did, a limited amount of time in Pittsburgh and want singles, this is a decent place to go.“

“Located on the west side of Pittsburgh (hence the name), near the Liberty Tunnel and Bridge for easy access to downtown. Beer in 4 and 6 packs and larger packages on shelves, in coolers, in a beer cave, and stacked on the floor. The place also seems to sell a lot of adult slushies to go. Friendly employees. A great selection of regional and other stuff. Only two constructive criticisms: (1) a singles selection would make this place ideal, and (2) look for date codes, especially for stuff that's not refrigerated. Well worth a stop, especially if you are lookig for beers in quantity.“

“Absolutely dead on the Monday afternoon, even though there were a lot of people in the neighborhood. Looks like a cocktail lounge, and with the spirits kept right up front, you think it is one. Just a handful of taps. Bartender didn't know beer at all, he was there to mix drinks. Nice enough place but they need to put the emphasis on the beers.“

“Stopped by early on a Friday and wasn't overly busy. I have to say this was some of the slowest service I've experienced in a long time. Bartender kept telling me give me 5 more min and would disappeared. I would have had 2 flights but didn't want to chance it taking another hour. Rueben was good. Guess it was the Manager that noticed I was empty holding my Credit Card for 10 min trying to leave.“

“In the city you need to pay for parking here at Southern Tier Brewing taproom in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They have an extensive beer list of three breweries including their own. Place is always packed with people here. Dim lighting and plenty of bar help. Tables for food and outdoor patio for summer. They fill growlers and have can beer to go. Souvenir shirts and hats also. Nice beer to have when you are in Pittsburgh for an event. Cheers!“

“New brewery in Spring Hill. Lots of hill climbing to get here. A small place with a view outdoor tables, nice overlook of the city. Inside there is a bar, some long tables. They have a few games, darts. They occasionally have food trucks. 7 taps when I visited. They focus on low gravity farmhouse ales. But they have a few others like brown ale, red ale, pale with honey. Very good beers. They offer 8 oz and 16 oz pours. Solid brewery in Pittsburgh, hours are a little limited, but it's worth a stop.“

“Sleek looking brewery in Pittsburgh. 1 server for the whole place, but service was still relatively quick. 13 taps, mostly lagers and IPAs. The 2 IPAs I had were quality. Nice place; I would come back.“

“Big expensive looking brewery by PNC park. This is the place to go after a game. Young overdressed crowd, very vibrant, loud and lively. Slow service, but the place is huge and crowded. “One of the best looking breweries I have been to. It really is an old church, complete with organ and stained glass windows. The place was understaffed but our server was working very hard. They had 7 of their own beers on tap, no guest taps. Sadly, the beer just wasn't very good. That's the only drawback and it's a pretty strong one. The food was good and surprisingly healthy for a brewery. This is a good place to eat dinner, just don't expect good beer.“

“Small but well put together brewpub in a busy part of downtown Pittsburgh. Fast service even though the place was busy, and the server was very knowledgeable about Fat Head beers. 23 Fat Head beers on tap, mostly IPAs, but I'm fine with that. Had a couple of pints; both beers were very good. 12 more guest taps, but why would you? The food was excellent and they had cold cans of to-go beer up front. If you go to Pittsburgh this is a must stop.“

“Brand new brewery in Garfield on Penn Ave. Nice new space - open, bright location with a small bar and tables, plus a small outdoor patio. 10 taps, fairly standard styles. So far, not too much rotation with the taps, but good offerings nonetheless. Had a NEIPA and sorachi saison, both solid. No food. Worth checking out.“

“A large brewpub in Castle Shannon. They have a very large outdoor patio area in front (empty on a rainy night). There is a large indoor space as well with multiple sections and a bar. Plenty of TVs, sports bar vibe. They have a number of taps, but they also have a whole wall with refrigerators full of bottles/cans. So the selection is immense. The beers I tried were ok (English pale ale, kolsch) to good (candy bar stout). They have a large food menu as well. I got the beet and mushroom burger which was delicious. Great place to stop for beer and food.“

“A new brewery in Bloomfield on Main Street. Cool vibes, chill place to hang out. Apparently they serve coffee in the morning, and then beer later. Not a huge selection, maybe 5 taps, but solid offerings. No food, but they have events/food trucks. There was a vegan pop up when I was there that had a few small dishes. They do host frequent events, and were especially popular during Pride week. Overall, a good stop in Pittsburgh. I don't think they rotate their beers too often, which will limit how frequently I return, but it's a fun stop.“

“Duffy's is a fantastic "warehouse" of beer (for lack of a better term). They sell everything from singles to full-on cases, and of course you can make your own six-packs with their healthy selection of those aforementioned singles. They carry the proper standards available everywhere, along with a bevy of international products and microbrews made around the U.S. (though I'd say most are from the local PA and OH region). Easily one of the biggest beer stores I've entered. Moreover, they sell snacks (candy and chips), brewing equipment and ingredients, and assorted party supplies. If you're looking for something, you'll probably find it here (or a reasonable facsimile).“

“Nice bar in the Southside of Pittsburgh. Nicely crowded on my visit on a Friday evening. Good level of service, very good availability of beers (I counted 39 taps), among which about 10 from Fat Head's. They also do flights. Wifi available, with password to ask. Prices were OK. Overall, a very nice place.“

“Very nice place downtown, with a real brick oven for pizza, and a big wall with 30 taps, from different breweries, some very prestigious like Cigar City Brewing. Unfortunately, while the place excels in selection lacks in service, as beers are served chilled and with no foam allowed (lots of CO2 left in your beer). Additionally - other big minus - they have no wifi! Food, instead, was great, and appropriately priced. Overall, very interesting, but too bad for the bad service.“

“Fairly large cocktail bar downtown. Not specialized on craft beers, but with 15 taps, out of which 10 are craft. In some cases, even high quality, like Founder's Breakfast Stout, although they don't look like they know what they're serving. Service is pretty much in a hurry with one person handling all the bar. Price of my beer was fine. Overall, OK, but not memorable. Would not stop here in a craft beer tour.“

“Small bar downtown, pretty dark inside. It gets noisy easily, because of limited space, I guess. They have 8-9 beers on tap, all craft. Only one size. My chicken katsu burger was very good. They have a full sushi bar. Prices were OK. No wifi provided, but you can use the one from a nearby place. Overall, OK, but not for craft beer tours.“

“I visited only the ground floor, which is a meatballs restaurant. Ambiance is OK, quite nice. Waiters are kind and explain the menu, however I didn't understand that the sides were paid extra ($7 for french fries?). Selection of draft beer is quite wide, with 32 available. I only tried one, unfortunately. The meatballs were not that great, although bread and the sauce were nice. Overall, I liked it.“

“In the airport this is a nice place to sample some real hometown pittsburgh brews. Decent friendly place but of course the prices are just a tad high. In addition to their standard brews they had a few good unique brews there. I had their schwartz and a hazy IPA, both solid brews. $7 for a draft. Near gate six. Wasn't too crowded on a monday afternoon. Pleasant find.“

“We came here on labor day 2.9.2019. Seems they have 10 more locations all over the US. A kind of Yard house concept a bit smaller. 90 beers on tap. Ok selection, beer quality was mediocre. Service not very attentive and food also mediocre at the best. There are for sure better places in Pittsburgh downtown.“

“Visited on a Sunday around 12:30 for brunch. The place is in a pretty nice suburb of Pittsburgh. They have a couple table out front and plenty of tables inside. Great brunch menu with a deal for an entrée, side, and drink for $25. Stuck with a Bloody Mary as part of the deal, mostly because the draft beer prices were exorbitant. Nothing on draft for under $6, which wouldn't be a problem if the right beers were on draft. The food was all great. I had a share of their standard poutine, crab cakes benedict, and sausage. Everybody I was with raved about their food as well. I would say definitely visit for brunch, but be prepared to skip beer unless you are willing to spend in the $6-25 range for anything. They do have lots of Belgian stuff, but nothing that's mindblowing.“

Liberty Beer (Beer Store)
4133 LIBERTY AVE
“Visited in the evening on a Saturday. They have a small parking lot, which seemed sufficient. Inside I was pretty impressed by the selection they offer. They have 4/6 packs on shelves, but you can easily break them down to build your own 6 pack, or buy them individually. Admittedly the prices of doing this are pretty high. I bought 5 cans and it came to $23. Some of the cans were well over $5 each, when their original packaging would have made them more in the $2-3 range per can. Living in a state with more normal beer laws gives the opportunity to pay much less for beer, so I'm thankful for that. The people working the counter were friendly, but kept to themselves while we shopped. If you are in the area, this is definitely a place to check out. They have a lot of great beer here.“

“Visited this place many times. Huge parking lot as part of a large shopping district just outside of Pittsburgh. More on the high end side. The beer selection is located on the right side of the front of the building. Pretty solid selection in six pack and in the build your own selection, but the best part of this place is the draft beer. They do growler fills here, and especially if you come at happy hour, the prices on those cannot be beat. If you are buying packaged beer, there is a limit on how much you can purchase per transaction. There is a sign that shows the limit. Their POS system won't let them go over it, so you cannot even make the purchase if you have too much. Other than that, the store is very much like the other better Giant Eagles, so pretty great as a grocery store.“

“This is my idea of what a local taproom should be. The place is tiny, but accommodating. All the folks working there, as well as the customers, were down to earth and friendly. The beers ranged from average to interesting. I was particularly enamored by the never ending arrival of customers who stopped by after giving their dogs the chance to romp in a local dog park. The place resembled nothing less than an all afternoon happy hour in a kennel. Thoroughly enjoyable couple of visits. I’m disappointed to see that ABC hasn’t attracted much attention on RB from locals.“

“Visited on a Saturday afternoon. This place is one street off of Butler, which has a ton of stuff going on. The seclusion is kind of nice though. You get away from the bustle a bit. Inside there a lots of tables, a long bar, some couches, and seating around most of the walls. Interesting and relaxed vibe here despite how busy they were. We found some seats, but they were in high demand at around 3pm. Food trucks are the norm here, and you chan check their website for the schedule. During this visit there was a guy making great smelling and looking pizzas. Beer here was more middle of the road, but the fruited sour they had on was great. They also had a kolsch, but I think it could use some work. This is a fun place to hang out and talk with people. I would recommend checking it out if you are going to any of the other places on/near Butler.“

“Visited on a Saturday afternoon as part of a Butler Street beer crawl. The place has a pretty good and diverse selection with plenty of Pittsburgh locals, as well as imports and other US Craft. I made myself a six pack from beers I couldn't find around home. Prices were on the high side, but I suspect that can be attributed to PA's dumb beer laws, and the specific beers I picked out. Don't hold the prices against them too much. Up until check out, I didn't realize they also had draft beer available. I was already needing to move along, but the list they had on the counter of what was available on draft looked great. Maybe another time.“

“Visited on a Saturday afternoon after lunch. Walked here from Ki Ramen, just up the street (highly recommend!). The vibe of this place is more of gastropub, than brewery. If you didn't know they brewed the beer they had on draft, you could easily miss it. The beer they had on my visit was a little more pedestrian in style, but quality was phenomenal. I've had beers from here that were definitely not pedestrian, though. They get creative, and they do it well, but seem to fly under the radar in the Pittsburgh beer scene since they don't focus on hops and doing a can release every few days. I want to come back and check this place out, maybe eat here. Worth a stop, plus it is in a happening part of town for both beer, food, and about anything else.“

“Visited on a Saturday early afternoon. I believe Schlenkerla visited same day as me, too bad our paths didn't cross. They had just released a can of IPA that was apparently very much anticipated. We drove by on the way to Hitchhiker, which is just a couple blocks away, and there was a line around the block. We couldn't see the end of it. This place is small, so if all those people were inside, that would explain why it was so packed. It was about a 15 minute wait in line to get a beer. I had an imperial stout that was alright. They lean very heavily toward the hop and haze side here. My friends and I had to stand against the wall while we drank our beer, which wasn't a problem, just a comment. This place could really use some more space if they are going to be this busy very often.“

“Visited on one of their regular can release Saturdays. Free parking is available around back of the building, otherwise you have meters all around. Got there a little before they opened and there was a line around 20 people long to get in, but everybody was there to buy cans. I was able to easily get a seat at the bar and order a flight. Inside is more industrial, I think this is where they do the bulk of their brewing and barrel aging. Lots of stainless steel all over the place. The flights here are 3 beers, 8 ounces each for $12. The quality of the beer in my flight was really great. Good diversity of beer on draft, but they do lean toward the hoppy side. My favorite of my visit was a coffee coconut porter. Delicious. Despite them being very busy, service was reasonable. Highly recommend this place.“
