COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We celebrated our first five years in business by releasing anniversary India pale ales, with each subsequent IPA brewed to be hoppier and more intense than the previous. For our 6th anniversary in 2002, we extended this concept by making an intensified version of Stone Smoked Porter. We cranked up the malts and hops a notch or three and conditioned it on French and American oak, which accentuated our porter’s distinctive smokiness and amplified its chocolate and roast coffee flavors while also adding subtle notes of toffee, cherries, dried berries and vanilla. We’re proud to give those who missed out—as well as those who didn’t—a fresh shot at experiencing this smoky, dark-as-night wonder.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2022 Bottled. Brown colour, mediumsized beigeish brown colour with a smalll off-white head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is toasted malts, some herbs, chocolate and mild zesty notes. Flavour is ashy, roasted malts, some herbs, mild liquorice, some chocolate and in general quite big roasted ashiness.

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2022 Beautiful dark brown body with a tan head. Roasted malt and chocolate aromas that follow into the taste. There's a definite smokiness to this but it's not too heavy. Lots of dark chocolate and cocoa in the flavor. Good bitter bite to balance the chocolaty sweetness which seems like it might be from both hops and dark roasted malt. The alcohol is evident but not heavy and is also well balanced with all the other components. Finishes bitter and chocolaty with a lasting dusty cocoa on the tongue. Another great one from Stone.

UPDATED: JUN 12, 2021 (Bottle) Black colour with hints of ruby when seen through light. Frothy beige head. Malty, roasted, hoppy nose with coffee, dark chocolate, black rye bread, caramel, prunes, nuts, pine needles and hints of smoke and wood. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, cacao, black rye bread, wood, caramel, prunes, pine needles, a touch of smoke, some black pepper and a generous piney bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Quite complex, there's roasty malt, coffee, cacao, smoke and piney hops. Tasty and quite well balanced. Very nice.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2020 Older check-in, shared with Marko and Ogi, thanks! Murky dark brown, lasting off-white to tan head. Spicy aroma, light chocolate, dark bread, fruit, slightly tart dried dark fruit, light smoky touch, some herbal and grassy hops. Quite rich, dark malts, spice, hoppy finish, light bitterness, good balance. Creamy texture, soft, medium body, soft carbonation, moderately lasting finish. Not spectacular, but nicely soft and creamy with a hoppy touch among the rest.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2020 Oddly both on the dry side and very drinkable. A good porter, and probaby should have had sooner than five years after being the redux. Then saw many others did the same.

Pdubyah (1171) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 7, 2020
UPDATED: MAR 7, 2020 It's all things at once, there's an underlaying nagging bitterness, then there's a smokey top note, and the mouthfeel is quite full and creamy, I really don't know what to think. That bitterness is very persistent and lingering.
