UPDATED: JUL 18, 2018 Quite good. Red in several features but strong in most of them. Well made and excellent in taste.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. Aroma- Malt and fruit, has a sweet smell. Appearance- This is an amber colored beer with medium sized off-white head. Taste- Malt, toffee and alcohol; not a bad mix. Palate- A medium to heavy bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Has a strong alcohol aftertaste. Overall- Not a bad barleywine, my first beer from Boulder Beer. I will drink this again and try their other labels.

APPEARANCE: starts well with an imposing label; intimidating dark garnet body that sports a frothy off-white head that laces with a brazen two-finger strength; lacing is spectral and substantial... AROMA: BIG apple, pear and sour fruit; powerful cherries--a nice mix of a beefy malty base and a kriek... PALATE: full-bodied, warming and hearty--yet smoothly sippable; a balanced barleywine, though it lacks a dry finish...TASTE: cherries are front and center; soft brown ale elements play on the sugary fruits; oddly not as winy as a barley purports to be...OVERALL:as I recalled from years past, a beer worthy of a blizzard watch; the price is about right for its heft; within its genre, not a standout, with enough imperfections to seek out better-rated beers...

A nice barelywine, smooth but not the most interesting. Pours a beautiful clear red with a tan head. Smells of bourbon, caramel and apple cinnamon. Taste is creamy, with a lot of maltiness, more caramel and cinnamon, and some green apple and booziness in the finish. Paired with Mac & Cheese Balls, a booziness and spiciness is brought out that lingers. Happy 998.

Pour at the Coney Island beer festival at mcu park. Dark brown barley wine style with a sweet bready taste

Had this beer on 4/2/2003. Aroma is a sweet malt scent like you would expect from a Scottish Ale. Color is a rich clear amber with very good carbonation and a nice head. Taste is malty and bitter. Starting with a full body that goes down with a mellow sharpness. Finish is a sweet rich malt flavor backed by quick bitterness. In the end it leaves you with a warm alcohol feel.

rating from memory, had this around 11/06, 22oz bomber, purchased at Chuck’s wine and spirits outside of cleveland. pours dark amber, nose sorta old ale like, sweet caramel and fruits. taste was pretty enjoyable, sweet malts, fruits, chocolate, and subtle vegetable notes. pretty tasty and aged fine.

11-Sep-06 (22 oz bottle: Obtained 30-Jul-04 in trade with Eyedrinkale, thanks Mike!) Lots of age under this one, so the characteristics aren’t surprising; it tastes and smells malty, earthy (the aroma is almost pungently so), chocolaty and moderately sweet. Brown sugar and dark fruits, but it’s moderately sweet, staying far away from anything remotely cloying. Bitterness, either from roastiness or hops is very mild if it ever existed in the first place. Whatever spice might have been in this winter-warmer-gone-wild is tough to pick out at this stage over the earthiness and dark fruits. Really coming across as an aged old ale to me. As mentioned, the aroma is earthy, but unmistakable sweet fruits come out even more. Body is medium-full and medium carbonation has held up perfectly after two-plus years in the bottle. Light brown in color, the beer is cloudy out of the bottle, but it pretty much clears up completely over time. Small, light-tan head shows more life on the second (and thus warmer) pour, but either way, it settles to a filmy layer after not too long. Only a few wisps of lace stick to the glass. Very enjoyable to drink, but this has almost certainly transformed into quite a different beer from when it was fresh. And with the aging, it has followed a pretty standard transition toward earth and dark fruits, but the chocolate overtones give it a nice note of distinction.
