UPDATED: JAN 5, 2017 Pours deep brown, almost black with a medium tan head that disappears quickly. Poor lacing. Nose is medium roasted coffee beans, licorice, peat. Hints of liquor. Taste starts salty and ends slightly bitter and smokey. Soy sauce, shellfish, smoked wood, dark chocolate - all flavours extremely balanced. Medium body, low carbonation. An extremely well done, smooth stout.

(bottle, 33cl) Black colour with a brown and firm short foamy head. Roasty malty aroma with deep notes of coffee and grounded coffee beans, accompanied by hints of dark chocolate, vanilla and a whiff of smoke. Roasty bitter and delicately sweet and salty flavour, medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation. Dark and roasted malt character with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, minerals, peanuts, shades of leather and subtle dried fruity notes; moderately roasty bitter, slightly salty and delicately sour finish with notes of chocolate, coffee and shades of peanuts in the aftertaste. Quite complex and really good. 03.XII.16

Bottle @ Muted Horn - Pours pitch black, nearly no (beige) head. Like pouring oil in a glass. Notes of cocoa, coffee. Thick malty body. Medium sweet, very well balanced. Slightly burning sensation in the throat. Dry. Easily drinkable. Dangerous stuff.

Gourmet-Flasche: Literally black, small but stable tanned foamy layer; moderate to solid sweet-bitter aroma of roasted malt, caramel, bitter chocolate and wanilla and vood, maybe traces of peat as well; moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied and soft; lingering toasty and fruity finish with an increasing bitter dryness towards the end. Wow! An unexpected gem from the Sauerland...

Really dark brown color with mocha head. Aroma has chocolate, smoked malt and some dried plums. Easy drinking for the ABV.

Saeglopur (1929) - Vienna Woods, AUSTRIA - OCT 1, 2016
Draught at Tribaun, Innsbruck.
Pitch bkack body, with a medium, dense, creamy, lacing, dark beige head.
Aroma of coffee, cocoa powder, liquorice, dark chocolate, some caramel, subtle vanilla.
Taste follows this, with even more dry espresso like notes and subtle dark fruits.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes roasty, dry, wooden, with espresso, cocoa powder, liquorice.

Tasty. Very characterful, with a dense coffee-aroma and a great dryness, yet quite smooth to drink. Very well hidden ABV, alcohol isnt really noticeable. Really great, accomplished style example.
