Bomber from Krausenjockey from back around 2007 poured a clear reddish amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of toffee, dried fruit, brandy, sherry and tobacco. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of toffee, brandy, sherry, dried fruit and light tobacco with a smooth lingering dried fruit finish.

Awesome brew! Poured a beautiful deep, burnished bronzish color. Aroma is a melange of sweet, dark fruits, vanlla, brandy, oak, brown sugar, figs, caramel, even a touch of nougat. The flavor is as bold and amazing as the aroma, with the 13% being so well hidden.

Super decadent (lol) caramel nose. Really great mouthfeel. Sweet toffee and caramel with a perfect palate.

Growler. Hazy amber golden with a small off-white head. Intense aroma of caramel and wood. Very full body, a little low in carbonation, intense caramel flavours, sweet notes of liqueur and wood. sweet finish, no bittering notes at all. 110709

I didn’t care for this as much as some. It was too sweet for me (an odd reaction for me) and I didn’t get the uniqueness of the story from this barrel. Growler shared at RBSG 2009 grand tasting.

RBSG09 growler at the grand tasting. Pours dark amber gold with a tan head. Huge estery nose, raisins, stone fruit, apples, caramel. Yeast and toffee sweetness in the flavor with a slightly tart fruity brandy note and a woody earthy finish. This definitely stands up to the barrel aging, enough to make a pretty nicely balanced and tasty beer, though a bit too sweet.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2010 From a growler at the GT 2009 - big thanks to Steve the Brewer! Nose is light fruit and malt - this and the odd orange color were not what I was expecting from a quad (though I have since had Kappitel Abt and it seems such a color is acceptable). Then some nonsense happened: I tasted it. Big fruit notes and that sharp flour taste of Rochefort 10 gave way to a prickling, fruity (quince, orange zest) alcohol from the brandy barrel. Finish was long and gorgeous. I don’t think I’ve had a subtle quad before, but this was genius in its crafting and a treat to taste. What an 800!

From growler. A hazy golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt and caramel as well as light notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet with primary notes of malt and alcohol, leading to a lightly alcoholic finish.

Pre-BCTC-08 Campout. Thanks to Frumpty for sharing these. Pours a deep amber with a woody almost ruby highlight and a nice head. Aroma is pretty big with the fruity complex esters, figs, raisin, and some apple hints, with a lot of big toasty sweet malts, caramel, toffee, earthy, phenolic and light plastic- with some other complex sugars- turbinado, and a lot of barrel toffee sweetness, brandy, old wood and some earthy dirt. Flavor is a bit of vanilla but it is covered up by the loads of good big malts, and fruits, brown sugar more caramel and molasses with some light toned down bourbon notes. Pretty smooth overall.
