Dogfish Head Flesh & Blood IPA
Pour from a 12oz can. Darker amber IPA with frothy tan head that quickly passes. Moderate aroma of dank earth with a few hints of citrus. Taste is moderately sweet up front, a little citrus tang emerges in the middle, finishes with continuing moderate sweetness, modest citrus notes and emerging dank notes as in the aroma. Palate is light but enjoyable. My sample has a canned on date of 2/23/17 and here it is 7/18 so it is almost 5 months old. Probably at the end of its fresh period. Maybe the fruity notes have faded. Enjoyable but somewhat bland.

Dogfish Head Flesh & Blood IPA
Aroma should be better. I expected more citrus. Great dark amber color with a light tan head; very unique for an IPA. Tastes good, not hoppy more like a dank ruby red grapefruit juice. Very easy drinking for the ABV and would be good for any non-hophead out there. Seltzer like palate, refreshing with a hint of hops in the aftertaste. This is good if you don’t expect an IPA in the traditional sense.

This is a good overall beer, but I would not consider it an IPA. It’s not hoppy enough. It tastes sweet (caramel), malty, balanced.

Bottle. Pours a perfect amber color with a small ring of beige head. The aroma is a mixture of herbal and floral hops, a little sweetness, and lots of orange peel. The citrus and orange taste is dominant, but some herbal tea and floral hops as well. Just a touch of lemon.

DOB:?

2015 BJCP Category: 33A Wood-Aged Beer (base style: 22A Double IPA)

AROMA: Sweet nose with confectionery notes of toffee, caramel. Slight sherry oxidation character is fine. Citrusy/piney hops are present, but do not dominate. Moderate alcohol character. 8/12

APPEARANCE: Murky copper hue; very hazy body. Mammoth off-white frothy head retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Moderately-sweet palette overall with English-style confectionery notes of toffee. Wood imparts slight vanilla and nutty flavors. Bitterness is strong, dank. Hop flavor akin to resin or citrus concentrate. Minor oxidation creates for sherry-like taste. Alcohol is quite prominent as it finishes with warming sensation. 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Full-bodied with medium-low carbonation. Smooth, soft texture with noticeable alcohol warmth (not surprising consider it’s 10% ABV). 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Interesting, impressive hybridization of styles. May be a little too big, though. 7/10

TOTAL SCORE: 35/50

Really smooth for the abv. Dark orange red coloring. Taste is hoppy, slight fruit, easy to drink. Was hoping for more fruit, but just a bit hoppy. Probably needs to be closer to room temp for all the fruits to come out. Tap

Dogfish Head Lupu-luaü IPA
Subtle flavoring & nearly session iPa like at 7.5%. Pours cloudy gold w/ a white head & plenty of lacing. The aroma is a good blend of hop, malt, & the slightest hint of coconut. The taste is the same. It’s almost like a mellowed down version of 60 min. The coconut presence isn’t that impactful other than simmering down the hops. It has a delicate mouthfeel & overall is a solid DFH offering!

Misty greenish wit pour, thin white head. Light, limey sour aroma, yeasty, lightly sweet and citrus flowery. Sturdy sourness, strong impression of fermented sloes or plummy wine. Mouthy, with a side-bitter finish. Pretty good. On tap, Momos.

Large Format - Crystal clear pale yellow color. Has a constant stream of tiny bubbles just like I would expect on champagne. Sting taste of white wine from the oak aging. I know it’s beer but it tastes pretty damn close to a white wine.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours gold with a white head. Aroma is fruity/floral - tho not strong for me. Med body, almost. Flavor is sort of strawberry with floral perfumeness. Delicate stuff. Flavors aren’t very strong, and it’s not very bitter. Ok drink tho.

On tap. Pours a slightly hazy orange-gold with a medium, creamy, long lasting, off-white head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet fruity aroma of caramel malt, grapefruit, orange, peach and pine. Sweet fruity flavour of caramel malt, grapefruit, orange, peach, apricot, tropical fruit and pine needles with a dry, bitter, hop resin finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Excellent.

Man this is an incredibly good beer. You can smell its balance right away and then when drinking you get the best of the Hops coupled with the smoothness of the malts. Really really good. Didn’t think it was the prettiest beer, kinda bland amber color, but the flavors were all there and the aroma is kickin.

Keg @ Red Cow. Amber pour with a small head. Blunt tropical fruit aroma. Grapefruit meat. Some herbal character and glazed don’t. Fairly sweet flavor. Toffee malt body with some fresh herb and grapefruit accents. A bit chewy, oily. In my opinion as a serious beer journalist, this is meh.

Dogfish Head SeaQuench Ale
As far as style goes, Dogfish does not disappoint with this offering. It stays very true to form, pouring a hazy straw-golden into the glass with a fizzy head that leaves ring lacing down the the pour. The nose is of tart citrus fruits, some sea water... very inviting. Flavors are of definitive sour, tart limes, lemons, some wood, coriander, and finishing tart with just a kiss of salt at the end. Makes for a clean, crisp, mouthfeel with an extremely lively body, excellent carbonation, and refreshing palate. Honestly, 3 the brews going into this make for a superb offering that not all brewers are able to reproduce as well. Kudos!

Tap at gravity. Golden orange with small head. Just a tad tart. Listed as a wit on the menu, definitely not that. Fruity grape and mild boozy hit. Wine barrel influence is mild. Interesting complexity and enjoyable, but not sure I’d seek this out again.

Aromas of brown sugar, dark fruits, apricot juice, candied caramel, odd yeast, sugared plums, figs and aged malts. Pours deep crimson/copper with an extremely thin foam and no lacing. Taste brings extremely sweet malts, sugared tangerine, figs, dates, raisins, plums and alcohol sugars upfront. Mid palate offers caramel, brown sugar, toffee, sugar coated caramel, apricot and vanilla. Finishes extremely sweet with tons of dark fruits, deep malt funk, molasses and amber malts. Overall, this is unique yet, overly sweet with lots of booze to it. B+ rating
