Dogfish Head Olde School Barleywine
12floz bottle, BOD: 01.18.2017 (faint imprint on the neck), $5 single, large stem snifter type of glass. This is a murky, ruby colored beer that has small glistening beige head. Smells richly of dates with a boozy essence. A big, bad, bold beauty of a brew. It strikes with soft carbonation, low bitterness, restrained sweetness, and a buzzy alcohol feel/taste without being too hot. Flavor of note are dates/figs and honey-caramel. This is an example of an ultra high ABV beer that works. Imperial barleywine...

12 oz. bottle. Pours almost black with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice, grapes. Taste is roasted malt, red grapes, oak, licorice, coffee notes. This combination doesn't really work for me...Finish is acidic and woody with too much grape and licorice. Wouldn't purchase again.

Dogfish Head Higher Math
DATE: January 17, 2018... OCCASION: celebrating the simultaneous payoff of our two credit cards with a beer that is basically a celebration in a bottle... GLASSWARE: Affligem chalice... after two years in the bottle, pours a dark mahogany body akin to tea, with an off-white head that dissipates to a singular ring--quite dark for a golden ale... light cocoa (like a tootsie roll), light cherries, ginger, thyme, and clove...and a heavier waft of red grapes... explodes as an intensely dry, full-bodied, instantly warming first sip... coats the teeth and tongue with warming sour tartness, cloying finish, and rich aftertaste... chewy--everything I expected from a beer that has been shelved for years and sat at 17% to boot... the flavor profile boasts a cornucopia--cocoa nibs, honey, red wine (demanding and sweet), caramel, candied apple, and definitely tart cherries... frustratingly, the flavors bleed together in a way that makes appreciating this quite difficult... this is the first beer I have been nervous to drink in a while--powerful and lasting.... like enjoying a sweet pinot noir, but garnished with tootsie rolls and hard liquor...not worth its price tag--not by a longshot, not worth pretending.... I would expect this beer to hold up over time, but not so much...

Opaque brown color with small medium brown head and no lacing. Aroma is roasty with chocolate notes and deep fruits, but very faint. Flavor is sweet up front, with earthy fruitiness. Nice roasted coffee and cocoa finish with slight bitterness. Oak is is pretty strong. Very easy to drink with little alcohol presence. Okay overall

Dogfish Head Pennsylvania Tuxedo (8.5%)
Bottle share from Jason Jones (the Animator :/) at Facebook in Menlo Park, CA. Aroma is herbal lozenges, mild tree sap, caramel. Taste is earthy malt, woodsy sap and then a spike of spruce that is reminiscent of menthol / eucalyptus and then bitter. Very unique and delivers on the spruce note.

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA
Pours a mostly clear ark amber body with a small fizzy beige head that faded to a thin film. The nose is very resiny and piney with a heavy caramel maltiness and a little alcohol. The flavor is very boozy and a lot more bitter than I was expecting. I remember this being much sweeter the last time that I had this. An intense resiny and piney hoppiness up front, fading to a very hot and boozy alcoholic finish. There’s plenty of caramel malt in here as well, but the boozy alcohol keeps it from being overly sweet. Full bodied, chewy, and clingy with fizzy carbonation. I didn’t remember especially liking this beer before, but I feel like I liked more than this. Maybe this really does need some extended aging. This bottle is somewhere in the neighborhood of a year old. Wouldn’t give this another go at this age, though I’m unlikely to buy more of this in the first place. 3/7/6/3/12

Dogfish Head Siracusa Nera
12 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA (bottled October 12, 2017 and labeled as "Oak-Aged Siracusa Nera"). Pours black with a creamy beige head. Aroma of anise, dark chocolate, vanilla, and oak. Taste features faint red wine notes that complement and soften the bitterness of the dark chocolate, licorice, and espresso notes of the roasted malt. Warm finish with lingering bitterness and fruitiness from the syrah. A nicely done imperial stout.

Dogfish Head Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout
Ultra overhyped, overrated beer in my opinion. Dogfish Head is hit or miss. I found this bottle at a grocery store for way too much! A dark hue with zero head or lace. The nose is of faint caramel. It has the booze but lacks a body. It just feels like from top to bottom a flat aged stout but without its complexity. The taste had me wondering when the flavor would happen, but it never does or did. Huge disappointment!

Pours a one finger chocolate head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Heavy bodied and medium carbonation. Nose is vanilla/raisin. Flavor follows raisin and vanilla, the very high ABV (16-17.5%) is barely noticeable, finish very smooth not cloying. Expensive - $10.95 for one 12oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, MA.

4 month old can > pint glass A: Deep copper body with a short, quickly falling head and sparse lace. S: Malt toffee with ripe orange in the background. T: Strong taste of ripe orange or other citrus flesh. Some toffee and brown bread but not as sweet as expected. Lemon finish brightens things up. M: Medium heavy with low carbonation and resinous finish. O: Expected a boozy sweet mess but it's pretty tasty (and this can is very old). Not something I could drink a lot of but definitely worth a try.

On tap at Stones Brewery, Escondido on 14th Jan 2018. Misty golden pour, wispy white head on my pint. Tropical fruit esters in the nose, citrus leaning in the taste, semi-bitter and easy to drink, liked it.

Bottle. Clear coppery body, medium clumping cream head. Nose of fruit and lots of zesty, spicy citrus peel; also pine. Big, sweet, chewy body with lots of sticky fruit, bitter citrus peel, and strange herbal floral notes that come together oddly and don't ultimately deliver.

Amber pour with a large white fluffy head after an aggressive pour. Smells delicious; aromas of grapefruit, lemon and orange peel. Taste is full of orange flavor up front, followed by hops and resin. Nice malty backbone with a dry, slightly bitter finish. Slick mouthfeel with little carbonation. Very tasty.

I was expecting this to be garbage but it smells great at least. It has a strong floral note, tons of citrus and a nice pine needle overtone. It's kinda heavy, sweet and resinous once you taste it though so not all that drinkable. Not a total loss for one pint but I don't think I could drink this in quantity.

Dogfish Head Olde School Barleywine
Late 2016-Early 2017 bottle from Val-U aged for a year. Pours a pretty copper with a finger of off-white foam that lingers, then dissipates. Very fruit-forward nose: bright raspberry, plum and currant. Sweet on the palate without being cloying. Dried apricot, fig and more fresh plum, and apricot. Some raisin and currant as it warms. Finish is a bit warming but feels nowhere near 15%. Really solid.

355ml embossed bottle. This isn't as bad as the description makes it to be. DFH already make too malty of ipas but this one is okay in terms of being a "neipa". Very tropical, fruity and even has bitterness.
