Bottle at home, Nivala. Thanks to JefVerstraete! Vntage 2013. Colour is clear reddish brown with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Dry fruits, ripe fruits, plums, chocolate, vanilla, some vineous elements and malts. Very good.

Taste is semi-sweet to sweet, Mouthful is thick and creamy, body is oily and sticky, carbonation is soft, finish is sweet, spicy and creamy. In overall very complex, smooth and creamy. Great brew.

Very sweet, light sour and bitter. Over medium bodied. Very weird but not bad.

330ml bottle from Beershop.com.ua. Vintage 2014. Pours a very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is dark fruits, brown sugar, some barrel and bourbon notes. Taste is, surprisingly, quite dry and not very sweet, dark fruits, some barrel and smoky notes. Pleasant stuff, but bourbon barrel aging process is not easy noticeable until the beer has a temperature of 20°C or so.

Bottle. Aroma is sweet. Caramel, vanilla, almonds, figs, dark fruits. Also some honey. Taste is a big suprisy. Aroma suggested that beer will be sweet. But no, beer is slightly sour. There are cherries, red fruits, a little bit tart. After that there is some dark notes like cocoa. Beer is rich in taste and very, very complex.

Kolor: Ciemnobrązowe, nieprzejrzyste. Początkowo wydaje się czarne.
Piana: Jak na ten styl piana wydaje się obłędna. Ma ciemno kremowy kolor, zbitą i zwartą konsystencję. Sprawia wrażenie jednej, jednolitej masy. Opada w dół powolutku. Pozostawia szereg wstęg na ściankach Sniftera.
Zapach: Aromat jest po prostu kosmiczny. Pierwsze przesłanki są kompletnie zaskakujące. Piwo jest wpisane w styl Sour Ale, a pachnie intensywną wanilia, karmelem, toffi. Pod spodem odrobina miodu. Daleko w tle cierpkie, owocowe nuty. Coś jakby rabarbar posypywany cukrem. Dla mnie bomba!
Smak: W smaku na maksa odjechane. Nie wiem czy jestem w stanie wyobrazić sobie jakiekolwiek piwo w podobnym stylu. Jest to mieszanka wielu stylów i światów. Piwo na pierwszy rzut oka wydaje się słodkie, karmelowe z elementami ciemnych i czerwonych owoców (rabarbar, śliwka, wiśnie). Po prostu mix doskonały. Po chwili staje się intensywnie kwaśne, owocowe z dominantami w postaci cierpkich owoców (czerwone i ciemne winogrona). Piwo ma gęstą teksturę, umiarkowane wysycenie. Odczucie w ustach jest pełne. Piwo rozpływa się dosłownie na podniebieniu. Niesamowite doznanie!
Wysycenie: Średnie.
Podsumowanie:
Teraz już wiem dlaczego mała butelka tego piwa kosztuje ponad 60 zł., a na rynku wtórnym ok. 100 ;) Piwo jest po prostu odjechane w kosmos. Dawno już nie piłem takiego ewenementu. Trunek w aromacie nie daje żadnych przesłanek, że może to być kwaśne piwo. Wprost przeciwnie jest mega słodkie, owocowe, karmelowe, a potem waniliowe. Dopiero w smaku pokazuje swoje kwaśne oblicze, przełamane wyraźną słodyczą. Kompleksowe, doskonale beczkowa, nietuzinkowe piwo.

Many Thanks for this beer to JefVerstraete. Vintage 2012 and Bottled on 09.2014. Absolutnie, niemal genialne piwo. Coz za wyglad: ciemne jak wejscie afrykanina noca do piwnicy bez oswietlenia. Oleiste, geste, piana jest ciemno brazowa, tak bardzo ciemnej to chyba moje oczy jeszcze nie widzialy, do tego jest piekna wielka spora i trzyma sie moze srednio ale obficie zaznacza swoja obecnosc. Zapach sliwki naleczowskiej, nieco ciemnego rumu i cynamonu. Smak poterznie bogaty sporo ciemnych owocow, wanilia, kakao mleczna czekolada, pierniki z marmolada w srodku, wszystko zalane wzmacnianym porto, alkochol wyczuwalny w postaci rozgrzania przelyku, alez szlachetnie piescil gardlo, dodaje nieco rumianych policzkow, ale zapachowo czy wstretnego spirytu sie nie czulo, genialnie ukryty. Piwo ma ogolnie profil slodki bnardzo rozgrzewajacy ale jakaz to przyjemna konsumpcja do sera cheddar i kabanosow z dziczyzny. Niemal perfekcyjne piwo. Polecam te rozkosz

2016 330ml bottle pours deep opaque brown with almost no head. Subtle aromas of dark chocolate, dark fruits and oak. Earthy flavours of cocoa, ash, stone fruit, sour grape, white wine vinegar and herbal characters. Any sweetness is veiled by the fruity tartness that lingers through the finish. Low carbonation (almost flat), but the alcohol is reasonable well disguised. The sourness is a little dominating in this vintage.

Comment: Would probably have been better with a few less years in the barrel. The barrel flavours totally dominates the base beer. Almost feels to old already despite being bottled just last year.

Murky reddish brown with no head. Aroma is malty, fruity and oxidized with toffee, figs, leathery dried fruits, some warming calvados notes, slight metallic and oak notes. Taste is sweet, malty, fruity, soft bitter with a slight tartness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, slight watery texture. Finish is slightly thin, sweet malty, vinous notes some apple.
Spent too long on the barrel, the base beer is a bit lost.

Donker bruin/zwart kleurig bier met een kleine creme kleurige schuimkraag die ook verdwijnt. Aroma: groene appel, barrel karakteristieken, drop, honing. Smaak: donker fruit, groene appel, drop, wat geroosterde mout, gist, wat vanille en wat alcohol in de afdronk. Weinig koolzuur, maar net genoeg om niet plat te zijn. Heerlijk en een stuk beter dan de Pannepot Reserva 2012 Bourbon BA Cask Strength.

Sourness, toffee, sourness, berries, slight hints of sour coffee beans in the taste. Caramelly, sour finish. Medium bodied, well balanced, exceptional brew.

Struise Blue Monk Special Reserve (Barrel Strength)
Had the beer during the 2016 Kompaan Bloedbroeder festival. The looks of the beer are nice. The beer has a dark brown color, like the color of cola. It seems a little cloudy and hardly any foam is formed. I wish there was a bit more foam. The smell is a bit mild. I smell some quite sweet malts, some salty and bitter smoke aromas and some chocolate. The smell is quite sweet, which i don’t mind. The smell has some touches of a barley wine and also a sour twist of a sour. I also smell som e oak wood. The taste is nice, with a nice sweetness. There are some Belgian sweet yeast touches, slightly sour hops a nd a nice bitter and slightly sweet smoke aroma. There are nice dark fruits present, some raisin. It is very warming. The palate is nice, not very special though. All in all, a very good beer. It is a nice blend between a Belgian Ale, bock beer and Eastern European smoked beers.

Bottle at Leighton’s 20K tasting, thanks to Dave & Matteo. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The aroma is rich, woody, earth, roasted malt, bitter - sweet, dried fruits, tangy, vanilla sugar and booze. The taste is initially smooth, sweet, sticky, toasted sugars, dried fruits, candied citrus peel, vanilla fudge and boozy bourbon through the finish. Full body, fine carbonation and slick mouth - feel. A bit heavy duty perhaps, but makes for an enjoyable sipping ale.

Pannepot 2015, poured from the bottle. Some sournss, dark grapes, molasses, burnt sugar in the nose. The carbonation is quiet low for a quadrupel as the head is medium and quickly diminishes, however this is a classic carbonation for a strong ale (like ris etc.). In taste there are some dark fruity notes, dark bread, burnt sugar, its more sweet and less sour than in the aroma, but there is this strong tart note that makes it akin to wine and sour beers. Quiet interesting and complex, but I would prefer more quadrupel like and less sour version.

Aromat: mocny, przyjemny, intensywny, w nim porto bardzo wyraźnie, rodzynki, suszone słodkie owoce- rodzynki, figi, śliwki. Wygląd: ciemnobrązowe, nieprzejrzyste, piany po krótkiej chwili brak. Smak: słodkie i łagodne, czekolada mleczna, figi, daktyle, suszone śliwki, karmel. Słodycz duża kontrowana lekką cierpkością od porto, pochodzącą od beczki, ale ogólnie balans przesunięty w kierunku słodkim. Finisz na szczęście winny, pojawia się trochę świeżych cierpkich owoców i porto, co dodaje trochę lekkości temu piwu. Wysycenie bardzo niskie, alkohol całkiem ukryty. Z czasem bardziej wychodzi wino i cierpkie owoce, lepiej pić jak się trochę ogrzeje bo wtedy lepiej je czuć. Wolę pić małymi łykami bo wtedy jest lżejsze, na czubku języka odczuwalne kwaśne smaki, a w tyle słodycz. Piwo ciekawe, wykwintne i bogate i w sumie całkiem dobre.

Struise Black Albert
2015 bottle. Such an enormous sweet stout, full of chocolate and molasses and dark, overripe fruits, an absolute monster of a brew. Nose almost comes across like a boozy Mudslide, thick with chocolate and coffee and a noticeable liquor back. Appearance is black as oil and almost as viscous, with a heavy brown head leaving no lace. Taste starts big and only grows bigger, massive Hershey syrup meeting Kahlua and anise, dried fig and black cherry meshing with a touch of black pepper and mild hop bitterness on the finish. Mocha fade gives up no heat despite the 13% ABV. A touch too sweet for me to be in love, but damned if it isn’t a drinkable beast, the smooth texture and lack of any burn making it scary how quickly my pint is disappearing. Let’s tick this baby up to 4, just for posterity’s sake.

The taste is rich, bitter - sweet, tangy, sweet - sour, sugary, rich red fruits, vanilla, wood, vinous, victoria sponge cake and balsamic vinegar with a juicy and tangy finish. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Juicy, tangy and rather fruity. Tasty stuff.

The aroma is rich roasted malt, sweet, sticky, dried fruits, charred, raisin, sultana, apple brandy, quite oily, toffee and wood. The taste is rich, slick, roasted malt, apple, pear, earth, leather, spice, Dr Pepper, raisin, apple crumble & ice-cream and some boozy warmth through the finish. Full body and fine carbonation. Pretty damn rich and sweet. I like aspects of this beer a fair bit, but it is a bit too much.

Wyglad jasno bursztynowy, metny. Smak Sporo slodkosci, ciut wanilowego smaku wraz z pieprzowa nuta, zdecydowanie Bourbon w smaku, beczki po bialym winie nic tu nie wniosly. Tak wiec jest to piwo w smaku zdecydowanie za slodkie, bourbonowo-whiskowe. Cale szczescie ze alkohol ukryty, ale rozgrzewal i tu sie go wyczuwalo i jeszcze troche w aromacie.
