750ml bottle [Thanks David for keeping me in mind on your Brugge trip!]. Brown colour with deep ruby glimmer and small to average, frothy, diminishing, minimally lacing, beige head. Fruity aroma, notes of cherry, dried fruit, raisin, dried banana. fig, date. Taste is fruity and minimally spicy, some rye spiciness, notes of cherry and a cornucopia of dried fruit, raisin, banana, fig, date, apricot. Very rich, harmonious and balanced, well hidden alcohol.

[email protected], Tampere, Finland. Ar: Strong/medium aroma with plum and some bourbon. Ap: Dark brown color with no head and hazy liquid. Ta: Strong, balanced taste with dark fruits like plum, some vanilla. Slight Bourbon nuances nicely on the background. Also nutty malts on the background. Wide taste spectrum and medium aftertaste nutty malts and a hint of bourbon. Pa: Medium/light body with medium/light carbonation. Ovr: Superb product with awesome bourbon implementation. Body is too light for the huge taste.

[email protected], Tampere, Finland. Bitter, pungent aroma of bit sour and sweet dark fruits with clear smoke background. Raisin, wet rags, some yeast. Medium/light body with light carbonation. Averagely balanced with medium aftertaste with dry, dark fruits. Overall, quite winery feeling with too light palate for the style. Still, smokiness is nicely implemented. Weird.

Piwo uznane przez RB za BSA, ale moim zdaniem spelnialo cechy quadrupla (zreszta w karcie tez bylo zapisane jako quad), w kazdym razie bardzo smaczne, niezaleznie jaki to styl. Barwa piwa ciemna, nieprzejrzysta. W aromacie czuc przede wszystkim beczke, wanilie i kawe, co bardziej przywodzilo mi na mysl RiS-y, niz belgijskie piwa. W smaku glownie slodki (ale nie jakos bardzo), praktyczny brak jakiejkolwiek kwasowosci, mial dosc sporo ciala, na pewno najwiecej ze wszystkich jakie quadów jakie tego dnia pilem. 10 % alkoholu niezle ukryte, ale dalo sie postarac bardziej, troszeczke przyszczypuje (daje 4/5). Mimo niewielkich wad, trzeba przyznac, ze jest to sztosowe piwo, a oceny na RB (4,1/5; 100 ovr 100 styl) nie wziely sie znikad. Tym lepiej sie pilo ze swiadomoscia, ze piwo ma juz 6 lat i zdazylo sie ladnie ulozyc i wyklarowac. Swietne piwo, bardzo polecam, w Belgii jest dosc dostepne, choc raczej nie tak stare edycje, jak 2011. Natomiast 2015 jest w bardzo wielu miejscach do dostania.

W aromacie piwa czuc intensywnie burbon, lekko zaskakujace zyto, a takze rodzynki (wielkie zaskoczenie w quadzie xDD). Barwa jest ciemnobrazowa, raczej nieprzejrzysta, lekko metna. Piana niewidoczna. W smaku to co w aromacie + bardzo intensywne nuty kawowe, do tego lekko kwaskowy. Niezle ukryte 10 % alkoholu. Ogólnie bardzo przyzwoity quadrupel, dobry w swoim stylu. Jak trafi sie w Polsce, to mozna smialo brac, bo niezle piwo, ale nie zabijalbym sie o nie. Z mojej podrózy wsród belgijskich piw znacznie lepszy byl zrecenzowany takze przed chwila Pannepot oraz IQ.

Can’t believe I haven’t rated this one! Pours a deep reddish brown color with a very thin head that didn’t stick around long. Aroma of dark dried fruits: cherry, date, raisin, sugar cookie, light spicy notes, caramel, and alcohol. Flavors were more dried dark fruits, snickerdoodle, brown sugar, treacle toffee, cacao nibs, alcohol, tobacco, wood, and a tiny hint of bitterness. Low carbonation, but featured very tiny prickly bubbles. Complex, nuanced, one of my favorites. Rich full-bodied mouthfeel, sticky and slick. An amazing beer.

330 mL bottle shared with ebone1988 that I got in a trade with Jorrit. Thanks man. The pour is a darker brown color with a light ruby shining through. There is a light tan colored head and a couple spots of lace as is falls. The aroma is smoky. Ugh. There is a heavy wine influence and a lightly chocolate peat. I’m not getting a lot else other than the smoke. The flavor is slightly smokier with a light oak and dark fruit addition. There is a light chocolate toward the finish and a hard peat left behind. The mouth feel is medium bodied and softly carbonated with a lingering chocolate smoke throughout. This is way too smoky for my enjoyment. 6 4 5 4 13

Bottle shared with koleminer20. 2013 vintage. Aroma is smoky, dark fruit, caramel, some tannins, woody, some red wine, complex. Appearance is dark brown red, light tan head, somewhat hazy. Taste is pretty smoky, red wine, tannins, dark fruit, caramel, some chocolate maybe, wood, the smoke really overwhelms though. Mouthfeel is medium body, dry, light carbonation, smoky red wine barrel aftertaste. Overall, it’s complex, but the smoke is really the standout flavor, and that’s unfortunate.

Color negro con capa de espuma marrón de tres dedos de grosor (buena retención). Carbonatación suave pero perceptible en las paredes de la copa. Textura oleosa y untuosa. En nariz hay cacao, dark fruits, pasas, toque ahumado, madera, canela, azúcar moreno. En boca hay dark fruits, un ligero punto de acidez, mucha madera (recuerda a algún oloroso), canela, azúcar moreno, pasas, reminiscencias de cacao, un toque herbal. Ultra compleja. Final ahumado y especiado. Amaga con picar. Alcohol perfectamente escondido. Postgusto a pasas y dark fruits con ligerísimo ahumado.

Palate was medium bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, malts, wood and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, boozy and bitter. A way too boozy brew.

Aus der Flasche (Vintage 2013) 2015-10 getrunken. Auch hier hat die Faßreifung für eine tolle Balance an Holznoten und kaum Süße gesorgt. Verdammt lecker das Zeug. Aus der Flasche (Vintage 2013) 2016-11 getrunken. In diesen dunkelbraunen Schwergewicht haben die Woodford Fässer eine ganz leichte Süße übriggelassen. Auch hier hat die Faßlagerung ein sehr rundes und edles Bier entstehen lassen. Hier steht klar eine fette Malznote im Vordergrund. Definitiv süffiger als der Struise Blue Monk. Aus der Flasche (Vintage 2013) 2017-04 getrunken. Fast schon ein Alterbekannter dieses Quadrupel und was soll ich sagen "JA - ich liebe es! Und heute durch seine Ausgewogenheit der Tagessieger.

Color dorado, translúcido de inicio, más turbio si se echa el último tercio, con algo de sedimento. Capa de espuma blanca de tres dedos de grosor (buena retención). Carbonatación suave. Textura oleosa. Huele floral, a grano, caramelo, especias. En boca hay dulzor, ligeros toques frutales, marcado carácter herbal y especiado, caramelo, miel y reminiscencias de frutos secos. Aparición de la levadura al final del trago junto con especias y un mínimo de amargor. Compleja e interesante, pero no me llega del todo. Peligrosa teniendo en cuenta su graduación.

330 ml bottle “Vintage 2012” bought at HK Brewcraft in Central.

Looks:Translucent amber brown colour with a thin ring of dirt-like yeast sediments; Half finger head with soapy off-white foam which lasts for 1 minute; Fair sticky lacing with near zero carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant and sweet amber malt which can be smelt as soon as it was popped, with strong dessert wine, vanilla, white grapes, Bourbon, light oak, caramel, toffee, liquorices, floral, strong molasses, light spices, light barrels, herbs, biscuits, light lemon and light grass. Nice barrels!

Taste: Strong sweet full amber malt, with strong white grapes, strong Bourbon, liquorces, strong caramel, toffee, carbo, floral, sticky molasses, strong spices, biscuits, yeast, lemon peel, very strong bitter hops and herbal grass.

Body: Full body. Oily and quite creamy palate.

Mouth Feel: Strong amber maltyness in a very thick background. Lots of white grapes followed closely by hard hitting Bourbon and liquorices. Strong caramel and toffee with floral and sticky sweetness. Spicy herbal with strong lemon rind to round. Intense and quite effective!

Booze: The 10.5% abv hits hard right from the start, thanks to the Kentucky Bourbon Barrels. The strong liquor is warm but still manageable in small sips, complimented by fair liquorices. Luckily the sweetness isn’t too strong to ruin it. Quite nice!

Hoppiness: Floral, light spices, herbs, light lemon and light grass in nose. Same in taste but stronger; Bitterness is strong for a lasting high astringent sweet-bitter boozy malty finish.

After Taste: Quite dry. Fruity herbal and strong bitter to mouth.

Comments: This one’s wine and Bourbon barrels are layered and strong, but also a little simple minded when it comes to varieties - white grapes, Bourbon and molasses - no more no less. Overall it’s well made and well barreled, with pleasant warm booze and well balanced hops and sweetness. Not the very best from Struise, but something well worth to savor!

P.S. Not bad for my 2000th rating!

The body is medium/full, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish lively. Not as great as I was expecting but a damn good Belgium Strong Ale!!

Bottle @ home. 2010 vintage. Cellared 2,5 years (by me). Light gusher. Color is dark brown with a lasting beige head and no lacing. Aroma of oak, calvados, vabilla, hints of brett and earth, figs, leather, alcohol, vinous fruits. Taste is unexpectedly dry with a medium body and high carbonation . Flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, calvados, oak, leather, vinous figs. Finish has layers of smooth vanilla, figs, leather and pears lingering. Taste has great complexity but lacks body IMO. Not sure this one will improve more.

750ml brown bottle that crushed my sobriety at RBAG 2017. Deathy black pour, oily, coated the glass with it’s evil deliciousness. The pour was from the lower part of the bottle, a lot of cloudiness. Head holds itself to a thin beige ring of foam. The nose is winy, roasty, grapes. The taste - chocolate malt, roasted malt, wood, caramel, toasty. Some alcohol. Big, big, big. This was delightful.

Body is heavy, quite sweet, but not overwhelming. Lively carbonation carrying the dried fruit and oak flavours over to a warming and boozy palate. Intense, but well balanced and extremely drinkable. Smooth and nice. Very good, worth all the praise!

Pours an unclear dark rusty brown with a beige head. Aroma has sweet vanilla, stewed fruits, oak, something oxidised, vinous and bready. Slight banana yeast notes too. The taste has roasted sweet malts, almost like a pumpernickel loaf but the baker dropped vanilla and Christmas spices into the dough. Slightly oxidised taste again, which put me off a bit but I can still appreciate the otherwise pretty great beer. Long bready aftertaste.
