“My favorite bar in Eindhoven with a great selection of beers and very knowledgeable staff. Very friendly, low key environment that has a great selection of dark beers in addition to the typical Belgian beers.“

“Visited on early Monday afternoon, some older locals hanging out. Old school brown bar, pre-1950s country and jazz playing. Gorgeous interior, lots of wood, style, and atmosphere. Pub food including classical and some Louisiana etc. themed fare available, vegetarian but not vegan. Fun place to visit, shame beer isn’t good, tap is Leffe, Dommelsch, Karemliet, Beerze,.. Doesn’t get more exciting than Hertog Jan which available for limited time.“

“Odd place, located on the main bar strip in Eindhoven. Mainstream 2000s hip hop blasting at unreasonable volume for most of our stay with one rock song thrown in. Friendly staff but the music, clientele was very into it as was the staff. Tap is an odd mix of things like Chouffe, Jupiler, Hoegaarden but also things like Jackie O’s & 3 Sons but Eindhoven has gotten insanely expensive and the latter beers can go up to 15 euro for 250 ml. Just way too much for a regular bar visit which was a main issue for me here. Bottle menu is anything from a long list of classic BE beers to 35 euro can of Heady Topper. Very strange place, didn’t really get into it.“

“Located on the main bar are strip. F1 playing upon visit on multiple screens plus projector. About 10 taps, mainstream choices, multiple BrewDog including a Radler, 10 euro for 500 ml. of Punk IPA. Basic offering of Uiltje, Bavaria, Weihenstephaner, Guinness, Corner,.. Could be a bit more exiting, prices in line with Eindhoven so steep. Cans and bottles have BrewDog, NL but some surprises to be found and more obscure beers beyond the tap selection. Seems decent as a drinking bar.“

“About a 2 km walk from the city center, more residential & newly build high flat appartement area. Located inside a food court that seems to be past prime. Large fermenting tanks, adjoining shop which is decent but not relevant given Bierbrigadier in the center or how good the beer selection is in supermarkets like Jumbo. 24 taps of which about 7 were theirs. Person serving us didn’t seem to be particularly informed and had to guess whether one of their own beers had lactose in it. Only for us to find out later that he was actually the owner. Flights don’t include the more expensive beer which is fair but not indicated on the menu. Flights were bit expensive, all of their beers were poor soggy Dutch takes on Belgians for a part in flavour which reminded me the beer scene of a decade ago despite the place being recent. Only their attempt at a NEIPA approached drinkable. Shockingly even beers from good breweries came out flat & poor on tap, Frontaal makes great beer. 24 taps is just too much given the size of this place. Just poor beer all around so I cannot recommend it.“

“Strijp-S located. Surprisingly large venue with quite a large brewery visible for what I presumed to be a smaller brewpub (never seen their beers before). They had about a dozen beers on tap with a fair amount from them and beers from the likes of De Nevel. They do flights, 5 for 10 €. We did one, NL style BE style beers, poor triple etc. plus a doable Session IPA, murky porter, wheat beer etc. Beer is doable largely but weaker homebrewer /kit beer level, tastes like a middling NL brewery from a decade ago. Service was very friendly and lively. Loads of food options, Smørrebrød, tapas etc. with options for all dietary requirements. Definity better than Het Veem brewery across the street but just not that great beer quality wise and there is far more in Eindhoven. Their beer is also available in cans.“

“Iris pub, typical English pub look and feel. Friendly staff. Around 30 beers, mostly pretty common, but some good ones. Food is good. Fine place to stay for a good night out. (3-2022).“

“Visited early 2018. Quite a modern, post-industrial style taproom by the river with a long bar, a brick/chalkboard/leather-laden interior, rock'n'roll music and pleasant service. Prices are rather high but this is Holland. The food was tasty (they have their own smoker). The waitress was perhaps not the most knowledgeable around but compensated that with her pleasant character. 250ml of beer costs about 5 eur, while a 4x200ml flight amounts to 12 eur, making the flight the better option. The only drawback - the flights cannot include beers above 10% ABV. I tried all 11 beers they had on tap, with the dubbel and IPA standing out, followed by a very good quadrupel, lentebier, APA and witbier. Overall a satisfying experience with most beers being very good.“

“Place to be for beer in Eindhoven. Good Van Moll beers, but for sure a great guest-beer-list on tap and on bottles ! Very crowdy, but a nice atmosphere anyway.“

“Visited on Muggins’ beer trip. Nice modern beer bar, quite nicely done. Pleasant and tasty bar food. Beer selection wide, lots of their own beers, which ranged from ok to good. An enjoyable stop.“

“Metal bar down the main bar street. Yeah it’s a dive bar but how could a place like this be any other way? If you’re into death metal (which the Kermis is) then the music is great. If you’re not the it’s probably not a great place for you. Beer selection features a fair bit of Brewdog, though not just the obvious ones. I found a tick on tap alone without resorting to the bottle/can selection. Also Mikkeller, Ij Cervasium and some macro stuff on the 9 taps. The selection of bottles and cans had a fair few Brewdogs, BBNo, some local stuff and Belgian standards. For me, this place was pretty good. I like this kind of music and vibe and could tick/have decent beer at the same time. Warning though that my Ambience score is for my taste and not for everyone.“

“Down the main bar street, it’s a long, dark and thin bar with a stage at the end. I guess there must be live music here but when I visited on a Sunday afternoon it was basically a scattering of locals watching football. Beer selection appears much improved from the previous review. The taps are certainly still mostly boring macro stuff (plus 1 De Molen) but there’s a decent selection of bottles. There’s some Belgian stuff in the fridges behind the bar but then an interesting double fridge to the entrance side of the bar with a decent and varied local and import selection. No problem for me to find a nice tick in there. Certainly way above a normal bar in terms of bottle selection and worthy of a Ratebeer entry. I expected little but was very pleasantly surprised. Updated the entry to reflect the bottle and can selection they now have.“

“Visited on a wednesday afternoon. Not busy at the start, but during dinner the place got crowded. Good modern industrial ambiance. Good selection of their own beers, quickly rotating, some specials, 12 taps and quite some bottles available. They do tasters (rather large still, but ok). Service wasnt great, bit cocky perhaps, and they didnt seem to know a lot about the beers. But anyway I liked it, would return.“

“I think a lot has changed here since 2016. Nice beer selection, including local breweries and many international. Over 600 beers. Including among many other a lot of Pohjala, harder to find Cigar City beers, Prairie, many Founders and one of the few that sell Bevog Hagger 0318 at this time. Friendly staff, good knowledge about the stuff they sell. Assortment visible at their website. Enough free parking space around the shop. Worth a visit.“

“Visited on a Saturday evening as I followed my wife's group of friends after going out for dinner. I wasn't very hopeful to begin with but 15 taps and 65 bottles, there's gotta be something decent right? Well, yes, there are a couple of decent beers, but from the all too familiar Belgian styles mostly. I didn't have the guts to order an IPA in a bar like this which focusses on outgoing youth judging by the music they played. Expect dubbels, tripels, couple quadruples, wit & weizen, pilseners, sweet liefmans fruitesse for the young ladies of course and Palm, De Koninck and Kwak. All in all, the good thing is that they have about 5 beers per style so there is a choice, albeit not a great one for the real beer enthusiast.“

“Some places bear such a reputation then while really visited, do not quite match it. May I have picked just a wrong lazy afternoon with unattentive service, may I have been spoiled by a great nearby city fellow, my experience in Van Moll just did not quite meet my expectations. Still the home beers were all pretty decent, some great, others forgettable. Maybe I was just unlucky. When a chance, I will for sure make a second try.“

“A brewery with an attached proeflokaal located in former factory along with other enterprises (including a distillery). Spacious modern interior offers plenty of seats plus outside summer garden must be lovely (I visited in March). Fourteen domestic beers on tap (incl. one collab brew with city fellows from Van Moll) plus surplus of others bottled. Tasting sets of chosen 4 in 0.2 l available. Most tasted beers at least interesting if not very good, in combination woth a superfriendly and easy-going service I had a better feeling tahn in nearby and much appraised Van Moll. For me, a must while in the city.“

“Not an interesting beermenu, even though it's over 20 pages long. The good beers are always out of stock. Don't bother going there, when Van Moll is 72 meter (236 ft) away.“

“I found this place a touch overwellming there most be hundreds of beers in about 20 fridges. Enough to make meaningful selections nonexistent. It’s was just guess work. Maybe a touch soulless for me. But the beer I had was good. Maybe I should give it another try when I’m less tired.“

Het Spiegelbeeld (Restaurant)
DOMMELSTRAAT 22
“We visited Het Spiegelbeeld later in the day on Thursday 28th September 2017 as we were off to see a gig by J.Bernardt at the Effenaar which is just a couple of minutes walk away. Het Spiegelbeeld is close to the railway station and looking at the map on RB it is close to one or two other places and the centre of town is a very short walk away.

Het Spiegelbeeld has more of a food focus, they may let you just have a beer, however we had planned to eat here before the gig and so did both. It being a pleasant autumnal day we decided to sit outside under the awning and ate our meal out here, the food which was sort of Tapas focused was fine and reasonably priced.

The beer list was very good for a place that appears to have more of a food focus, I had Jopen / Birrificio Lambrate Smoke'n Magic but such was the selection I could quite easily have found a few others that would have been new to me. I never ventured inside so I cannot really comment on how big or what it looks like, though viewing from the outside I would imagine that it is fairly modest sized and looking at the reviews below there is a bar that you can sit at. I thought the service was good and staff friendly, I think I would pop in here for a beer if in the area. “

“We visited Van Moll on Thursday 28th September 2017 we were in Eindhoven to see a gig by J.Bernardt at the Effenaar. Van Moll is just around the corner from The Drinkers Pub, making a handy mini two pub/bar stop, though when you get here you are unlikely to move on for some time. Van Moll is quite central it is located on Keizersgracht and just a 2-3 walk from the The Drinkers Pub pub.

it was very quiet when we arrived which was mid/late afternoon, however after 3 beers by the time we left it was actually quite busy. From the outside it looks quite plain, mostly large glass windows look out onto the road, there may have been some benches outside I am unsure. Inside it is on two levels the lower level as you enter with plenty of seating and looking out onto the street and a small flight of steps leads up to the next level with the bar on the left hand side up here. I didn't really have a good look around as I was concentrating more on the excellent beer list, however I think the look was clean, simple, modern with wooden or a wooden look floor, a few posters (gig's, bands, etc) scattered around, it was bright and airy and probably looked much bigger than it actually is.

The beer selection was superb, really well chosen guest beers and a lot of their own on tap, prices were fair considering their were a number of imported beers and I guess that this is really the go to place for the Dutch who live in Eindhoven to keep tabs on what is happening elsewhere in the beer world as I am sure it would get here. We were chatting with two girls at the bar, both were a little tipsy but wanted to chat and were good fun, we also chatted with a youngish chap who lived further south in the Netherlands but was clearly a big beer fan like us who also travels a lot for beer. The bar staff were really knowledgeable and very professional and the whole set up was one that you would wish for your own town, all topped off by the fact that Van Moll also make cracking beers! This is easily one of the best places in the Netherlands and would probably be rated even higher and swarmed over by tourists, however even in a small country like the Netherlands it is nice to see that places like this are off the beaten track for many.
