floydian1 (1985) - FNQ, Australia, - JAN 22, 2022
UPDATED: JAN 22, 2022 750ml bottle from BWS (BB 31/8/22). Appears opaque black with a decent tan head. Nose and taste is largely malt derived with burnt toffee, chocolate, dark berries, and faint coffee notes. Finishes dryish with a mild hop bitterness. Medium body, lively carbonation. Better than expected.

UPDATED: AUG 30, 2021 A very disappointing effort under the Guinness name. No pretence at a balanced flavour.

The basis is an unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract shipped from Dublin, which is added to local ingredients and brewed locally. The abv may vary. There is also another Guinness FES at 6.5% alcohol, brewed in Kenya, by Kenyan Breweries Ltd and one brewed in Tanzania by Serengeti Breweries Ltd. Editor’s Note: Not sure at what point this went from 7.5% (the standard FES) to 6.5%. This entry is for Jamaican, Tanzanian and the Kenyan FES’ only - we don’t know of any others at 6.5% but if you see one let us know. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2018 Bottle. Pours opaque black with thin head. No nitro :(. Toasty aroma. Strong malt character version of regular guinness

Pours an opaque black colour with a medium sized white-coloured head. The aroma is of malt, coffee and toffee. The flavour is moderately bitter and long-lasting on the palate. Overall this is a good-value-for-money stout.

Bottle into glass. Hadn’t drunk this for a while and past memory wasn’t great - mediocre at best. Only purchased because I needed a stout for the sauce to have with slow cooked beef ribs and didn’t want to waste a high quality beer. Glad I did. Poured with a surprisingly large head - mainly because I wasn’t expecting it and hadn’t been careful. Looked amazing though, jet black and thick tan head that lasted and left a huge amount of lacing. Unusual for lacing that good from a Guinness in a bottle. Maybe my glass was cleaner than usual :-). Aroma - mild but noticeable if you gave it a big sniff. Burnt toffee / caramel / malts. Taste - like a stout should with a decent mix of sweet and bitter. Mid length palate. Overall enjoyed this far more than I remembered the last one. Came from a six pack of 375 mils not a "tallie". Not sure if that is the reason - or there is a new recipe, but happy to enjoy the rest over a few cool nights. Overall - enjoyable but no Wow factor.

UPDATED: MAY 4, 2019 From bottle (BB Oct'19) in porter glass. Pours dark brown w/tan head, smokey almost meaty malt aroma. Choc-like sweetness from the roast malt, mild bitterness in the finish. A bit different from other Guinness variations

From a bottle. An often forgotten classic of the style that is hard to go past.

This Australian brewed version is a real disappointment. Aroma is not bad, more fruits than modern stouts but the coffee and roast is there. Problem is the sour metallic taste. Not as enjoyable as a "real" Guinness by any stretch.
