UPDATED: APR 12, 2023 Sampled at de Grade for 6th Anniversary. End of bottle pour.. Pale golde, light, effervescent. Aroma and taste offer notes of Apples, grapes, funk. Plenty of pucker left in this.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2021 Bottle @ De Garde. Clear golden beer with a tall white head. Pretty mild and well done. A lot of earthy, grassy, and library book funk. Tartness of lemon and white grape. Subtle sweetness on the tongue. Has a decent oak quality. Maybe some vanilla. A hint of sweet tart on the finish. Interesting dandelion flavor to it that I like quite a bit.

UPDATED: AUG 18, 2019 750ml bottle in a full vertical pours out golden topped with a small head. Nose is dusty attic notes earthy funk a little citrus zest. Taste is more of the nice funky dust notes farmhouse some citrus notes.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2019 (Tupperwhale @ Nische's tasting c/o Werckmeister, many thanks!) Pours lightly hazy medium gold with a tiny white head. Notes of rather juicy and quite tart citrus, gooseberry, tart apple, funky cheese, hay, dry earthy barnyard, smooth oak, light acetic white wine vinegar, peppery old hops, touch of astringency. Rather high tartness partially dries in the finish, almost nutty oak, horseblanket, lingering citrus. Medium oily body, very soft carbonation. Held up well to make it to my lips, definitely in the gueuze ballpark, feel lucky to have tried it!

UPDATED: APR 6, 2019 0,75l bottle at home shared by me from a trade. yellow hazy color, small white head. smells citric, earhy, grassy, musty, blue cheese, very nice smell. medium body, bubbly carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes citric, grassy, earthy, some cheese, herbal, wood, peppery. finishes dry and light to medium sour with notes of cheese, grass and citrus. very nice one, very smooth to drink. great complexity, definitly close to a good gueuze

Orange, medium hazy body, with a small, yellowish head.
Lovely aroma of barnyard, cheese, wood, apples, citrus, some horse blanket .
Tastes quite similar, less funky, with more sweet grapes, slight vinegar.
Medium, slick mouthfeel, with a quite lively carbonation.
Finishes medium dry, moderate sour, a bit funky, with green apples, citrus, some pears, some almond.

Tasty! The nose is really lovely, very Lamic like. Tastes a bit sweeter, while very fruity. Another great one by De Garde.

Alengrin (11039) - Gent, BELGIUM - OCT 17, 2018
Blend of spontaneously fermented beer by De Garde - and in that sense technically a 'geuze' if you ignore the legislations surrounding that name, though the brewery itself refuses to apply the terms 'lambic' and 'geuze' out of respect for the traditional lambic brewers in Belgium's Senne Valley. Sample at Bumb3r, thanks Goedele for sharing. Egg-white, loosely structured, irregular, opening head on misty straw blonde-yellow beer. Aroma of lemon rind, fresh cucumber, yellow plum, green gooseberries, starfruit, sour cream, white bread, fermenting hay, crabapple, fig vinegar. Fruity-estery, sour onset, lemony edges but yellow plum- and gooseberry-like in its core, with some minimal sweetness within; crisp, medium carbonated, supple, slick body, bready but consistently dried by lactic and subtly lemony sourness, with lovely hayish and sweaty Brett notes retronasally, yet in an elegant way. Elegance and drinkability are key here, this is beautifully made and among the best non-traditional lambic beers I had to date, a 'quasi-geuze' indeed though still lacking a bit in the earthy depths and funkiness found in a top level 'traditional' geuze. Still, a formidable achievement, making me very thirsty for more of this famed brewery's range.

To say that I was skeptical that this lived up to hype AND transcended American sour brewing to hang with the actual heavyweights of lambics, was quite an understatement, even given my great love and respect for this brewery. But when multiple people in the lambic people swear to it, you close your eyes, cringe, and trade very rare, actual lambics for it.
Bright golden-brass, with soft, warm, honey tones and a smattering of white head atop that quickly recedes to a ring. Plentiful carbonation.
Nose is.....WOW. Just wow. It only takes one second and I'm immediately glad I traded for this, as I'm instantly transported to the lush, rich, complex, rewarding world of real lambic aromas. It's gueuzey as all hell, with light honey and biscuit malt/wheat beneath a robust yet mild/even Brett-and-lacto blend that incorporates ample, but elegant, oak to the mix with low acetic character, no alcohol, flaw or aggressiveness. Aroma is full, strong and absolutely stunning, with pear, orange, mineral, light horseblanket, sweat, pepper and more. It never fades, but develops continually and after about 10 minutes I finally decide I may as well drink some, though I'm pretty sure I'd be content to just smell it.
Flavor/texture doesn't disappoint. Fine, gueuze-like carbonation carries mild, even, Brett and lactic acid throughout the palate on top of a malty, but well-attenuated malt and wheat base. Light oak, with soft tannin and plentiful mineral, pepper and barnyard piles on, yet never bogs down the palate in sourness. Tart and refreshing on the finish with light lip-smacking acidity and rustic hay, grain and more oak lingering long. Truly lived up to the hype and right up there with some of the best gueuzes I've had; absolutely incredible when taken in to consideration this was made in America. Isabella Proximus was pretty fantastic, even holding it to true gueuze standards, but this is on another level than even that. A real treat and worth the steep trade value.
