I have to scale my folding down, too. On Medium, my CPU gets too hot and the machine reboots. Hell, even on Light, I show consistent 50% utilization across the board, which really works out to 3 cores at 80-90% util. and 1 core basically idle. Medium would ramp up to 100% CPU, and stay there. I don’t even know what Full would do.

As much as I want to help, I’m not going to go drop $40 on an after-market cooler just for folding. Sorry.

Pop open the machine and clean up all the dust. I bet your heat sink is covered.

Even if you kick-in 100 points per day, it helps. That said, if I come across a decent CPU cooler, I’ll donate it to you. And a tube of thermal paste to install it.

Awesome, thanks! I have a Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition @ stock speed. I think my client is reporting somewhere in the neighborhood of 3500 PPD right now.

How many fans are on your case? And are they dusty? You’d be surprised at how big a difference a $4 fan can make.

I just checked- your CPU shuts down a 65C. My intel shuts down at 105C, so cooling is going to be an issue, as I run at 67C under full load with lots and lots of fans. I think we can get you there, though. If I do manage to find something, I’m also curious if you have an open PCIe x 16 slot.

Good bump. From 26k to 55k in one day!

Thanks for the suggestions, but I do keep my machine nice and dust-free. Got plenty of cans of air laying around for that.

And no, my mobo only has a single PCIe 16X slot. I decided when I built it that I was not going to be running SLI, I would just buy the best single card I could afford.

I’ll go ahead and re-enable folding on my GPU now that it’s turned down to the Light setting, that should definitely help get us some more points. Thanks guys.

What GPU are you running currently?

That’ll do at least 20k PPD if you follow my cheat-sheet advice.

Were at 1100 right now. Huge days this week so far, might be able to do 1.5 million points this week, if we get lucky. Should pass a few more teams today still, get us solidly into the top 1100.

All right, up to around 50k PPD now! That should help big time!
