Will this run on linux? If so I’ll see if I can use some processors in the data center for this.

Linux can even be more efficient than Windows the system processes take up less resources making more room for folding to do work

We did more in 9 days of November than we did in all of October. We’ll be top 2000 by the end of the week

So exciting. Also, 21 people now. If we could recruit 5-10 more machines, that would be awesome.

How to build a beastly folding rig for a few hundred dollars:

1. ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 motherboard- $120
2. Intel i5 3570k- $220
3. NVidia GTX 650ti ($130) or GTX 760 ($250)
4. 8GB DDR5 RAM- $50
5. optional) good power supply- $100
6. CPU cooler ($50)

Reuse your old hard drives and disc drives. You can build a very competent Folding Rig that will also play most games maxed out for $670. Or for $780, you can build one that will beat the sleeves off of the PS4 or XBoxone. Of course, if you already have a good motherboard and chipset, the price drops dramatically.

In the event that you have a good quad-core chip and motherboard, just buy the video card and cooler. With the cooler installed, you can safely overclock your CPU to handle additional folding.

I’ve said it in the other thread, but I recommend you download Speedfan (free) to monitor your system temps and make sure nothing goes above 80C for sustained periods while folding. Remember, fans are cheap, so don’t be afraid to add them!

I’m looking for the "add fan" slot in my iMac and can’t find it. Please advise.

I need to see if my old laptop can handle folding. if it can, i’ll get that set-up in the office and it go. might just get small WUs and hammer them out, add some points everyday at least.
