Brigadier (4930) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 1, 2018
On tap in Madison, WI At $3.00 for a snifter this made the perfect Tuesday special at Hopcat. A polished barleywine from Utah gets the job done. While I don't typically go out of my way to see what Uinta is doing these days I did not regret making the choice a few weeks ago. AROMA / APPEARANCE A cloudy dense body fills the glass with a thick texture the color of mahogany wood. Light oily head creeps on the surface. Sweet earth, squash, vanilla, and foggy spices blend into a sticky boozy bouquet. FLAVOR / PALATE Earthy slightly overcooked pumpkin pie clings to the tongue. A boozy essence carries it into a warm finish full of oak, earth, and ethanol. The long lasting finish remains with a heavy feel that brings to mind the 11% ABV for a memorable period. If you are looking for a good nightcap on a cool fall evening check out this heady barleywine.

Bottle. It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of oak, dark fruits, chocolate, vanilla, malts and bourbon. The taste was similar to the aroma with more dark fruits, chocolate, vanilla, malts, bourbon with medium carbonation and a nice chewy aftertaste. Good stuff.

750 ml bottle (2012 vintage) thanks going to Willrunforbeer. Held up ok overall, mild oak, dark fruit, and just a tiny hint of bourbon before the wet cardboard in the finish. For the age, not bad.

750ml bottle from my cellar, dated 11/29/2012. Pours dark raisin brown with some thin off white bubbles on top. Aroma is dark malts, toffee, bourbon, oak. Flavor is dark malt, toffee, grass, bourbon, tannic oak and hints of oxidation in the finish. After sis years in the bottle, this is holding up okay.
