COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Un genre d’hybride bière/tawny/cognac... Des fruits, cerises, dattes, caramel et tout le pataclan sur une finale toute chaude d’alcool. Une gaterie à partager avec l’être cher.

For me the brewer, it’s not made to be an American Strong Ale or something else. It’s made to be a kind of barley based port-style with very little carbonation, just enought to protect it against oxydation.

***2005 Vintage*** Appearance: Pours a very opaque brown body with some distinct ruby overtones. A thin 1 finger foam that disappears fairly quickly. Smell: Very boozy with some wood, dark cherries and a strong sweetness. Quite the nice aroma. Taste: Very complex flavors swirling around. Berries, caramel, wood, brown sugar and an overall sweetness that permeates the taste. It has a port or sherry feel to it. In the finish, i taste some cinnamon also laced with some whiskey(?). Mouthfeel: Mouthcoating goodness but the body is a bit heavy. Full-bodied to the max for sure but it is a LITTLE bit much. Quite low carbonation (as evident from the almost absent head). Bouteille 341ml. (2006)

Bottle, thanks to iguenard, reviewed from notes taken on 07/17/2011. Pours dark brown, plum, with little to no head. Rich nose: caramel malts, rum raisin, toffee, vanilla and honey; decadent, almost some barrel notes though I think this was not aged in barrels. Taste of cola, slightly sweet, caramel and brown sugar, dark cherries, slight alcohol bitterness. Medium thin palate, feels heavier due to low carbonation. Really great brew, glad to have tried, though perhaps starting to go downhill, especially in the flavor.

Originally rated July 2006. This strong brew pours a cola brown colour with ruby highlights. There seems to be no carbonation. Tanned head is very small and goes away fast. The nose is beautiful with nuts and roasted malt aromas. Sticky mouthfeel, and flat because of the lack of carbonation. The taste is mild enough with some slight burn, dark fruit, caramel and nuts in the finish. A very nice brew, and good as a digestif (as written on the label).

Bottled. Poured clear garnet-tinted copper with just a dusting of beige head.. looked like it was meant to after checking out the description. The aroma was deep, warm, and seductive.. port wine, raisins, and molasses sweetness joined by faint metallic notes and amplified by alcohol presence (there was enough sweetness to more or less hold the booze in check). The flavor found syrupy molasses, dark fruit, and port at the core.. prickly, alcohol-infused dark spices and smoked oak around.. finished with more molasses and warm port. Heavier-bodied with a syrupy feel on the palate from low carbonation.. sweet overall and filling, with tasty sugars and a warm belly at the end. This was mighty enjoyable.

Bottled, thanks Timo A! Deep ruby color. Thick berryish and caramelly aroma with red currants, toffee and warming alcohol. Thick dessert wine like flavor with toffee, raisins, plum and caramel. Good dessert!

341ml bottle from Glouglouburp - thanks Dany! My fear was that this was going to be one of those face-wrecking, imbalanced brews that seem to populate this style, where you get a little bit of port character after the blowtorch. Was pleasantly surprised at how this little nightcap - potent as it is - was big and flavorful even though well balanced, smooth, and enjoyable simply as a dark ale. Thin beige head on the deep, oily brown pour (with hints of ruby). Big fruity malts in the nose, with sweet toffee and of course port. Very smooth mouthfeel enhances the mellow port qualities of the brew. And as it warms, there are slight peppery and woody qualities that emerge to complement the fruit. Very enjoyable sipper.

6,79$ for 341 ml in a mysterious convenient store... After 4 years of aging in this forgotten store, I’m not sur it has been aged in the best conditions but I am slightly disapointed with that one. It has a lot of similarities in the taste than the 2nd batch of Bieropholie Mackroken Flower, only thicker and even more complex. Very sweet, maybe too much; in french, "ça tombe sur le coeur". Beyond the aggressive sweetness lies layers of spices, sourness, fruits but it is very difficult to be precise. It also has some similarities with tawnys. Quality of product and a well-intended talented brewer don’t always result in great beers. Not underrated to me. Still, if you have the chance to find it, it deserves to be tasted for its quality and authenticity.

Bottle from Glouglouburp. Thanks Dany! Aroma of fruits (reminds me a bit of Westy 8). Tastes of fruits, spice and finishes a tad bit dry on the tongue. Excellent.

Dégusté avec french tickler et agaguk le 20 août 2007. Ruby brown almost clear poor with a tiny head. Aromas of alcohol, cherries, prunes, leather, apple-pear, madeira, port... very strong amazing aromas coming from this beer.Added notes of maple syrup. Very progressive aromas and flavors. Missing slightly effervescence... medium bodied for a 12.5% ale. Very sweet fruity flavors. Very good overall, reminds of a warm cognac beside a fire on a cold winter night.
