2.5 Harrisons Blackberry Wheat I’m not a fruit beer appreciator usually, but got a taste of this one thanks to our server at Harrisons today. I was deciding between the peach and the blackberry, and went with the peach, because I love peaches. The peach was tasty and more "wheaty" than the blackberry. The blackberry had a really great dry mouthfeel for me. The blackberry taste delivered a hoppy back note that I enjoyed. This is a another one that I would have gotten a growler of (along with the peach) if we’d had time to wait for a growler. An interesting beer. Sunday, March 3, 2013

1.9 Harrisons Red Wow, I pretty bad red in my opinion. A lot of malt with almost no hops. It seemed very "empty" to me. I’ve had way better amber ales. Thankfully this one was just a taster sample :) Saturday, March 2, 2013

2.5 Harrisons Millennium Pale Ale Well, it’s OK I suppose. It’s "flat", my term, for a beer that’s supposed to have at least some hop character. Not as much as an IPA, mind you, but definitely, not on par with other pale ales. Too much malt in the background for my taste. Glad I tried it, but wouldn’t repeat. Saturday, March 2, 2013

3.4 Harrisons Peach Ale Had this on tap at Harrisons in Orland Park. Peach is my favorite fruit, so when our server told us it was the "brewer’s special", I had to try it. Light and dry and plenty of peach in the aroma and flavor. I’m not a big fan of "fruit" beers, but I really enjoyed this one. If we’d had more time (had to get out to catch a movie), I would have seriously considered taking a growler home. Saturday, March 2, 2013

3.5 Harrisons XXX IPA On tap at the brewpub, this had a cloudy dark straw body with a creamy off-white head. It had a fruity, citrusy nose with an underlying grainy sweetness. The flavor was balanced towards the hoppy side, a sturdy bitterness of grapefruit zest and light citus juices versus a a medium graininess and a dollop of caramel. The finish was dry and pleasantly bitter. Pretty decent beer. Saturday, January 7, 2012

3 Harrisons Peppermint Barley Wine Served in a snifter, this had a dark mahogany body, clear around the edges, with a quickly disappearing tan head. Eveb though my head was slightly stuffed, I could smell the peppermint even before I raised the glass to my face. That makes this difficult for me to rate, since I like the aroma of peppermint... but in a barley wine...? The flavor was strong with the mint, but also delivered a toasty taste of milk chocolate. It ended with a toothpastey clean finish. Should the admins move this to "Spice/Herb/Vegetable," I certainly wouldn’t be offended. Saturday, January 7, 2012

2.9 Harrisons Millennium Pale Ale On-tap into a pint glass... This was suppose to be the best beer they had, probably was but still not saying a whole lot... Pours a totally clear dark orange with notes of copper, looks good. The head is a nice off white, good retention and lace... The aroma is also pretty good, mostly grassy on the front with a hint of caramel, pine hop finish... The taste is decent at first, light toffee and grass. The finish becomes way too bitter, hops are off, reminds me more of an ipa. Not terrible but I wouldn’t have this again unless my prison was Harrison’s and I was sentenced to life without parole. 1.6 Harrisons Red On-tap into a taster... This one starts off really nice. A bright clear medium copper, hints of amber. The head is a nice tope color, great retention, looks good... The aroma is light with notes of rye and a hint of toffee; a little generic but unoffensive... The taste is horrible, fuesal alcohol finish with a bit of toffee. Was this the base beer for BA 1000 IBU? Tastes like burning. Wednesday, March 30, 2011

1.6 Harrisons Wheat On-tap into a tasting glass... Pours an ugly dirty honey gold, ugly head, served with a lemon slice!... The aroma is dead, nothing going on at all... The taste is bad lemon and wheat, very chemical, terrible finish that is stale cloves and wheat. Big time pass. Wednesday, March 30, 2011

2.3 Harrisons LaGrange Golden Light On-tap into a pint glass... A medium but lightly murky straw, off looking. However, the head is great. A bright white that has great retention and totally thick and coating lacing that looks great... The aroma is really light and boring, a hint of grain... The taste is light skunk from start to finish, that’s it. A very HARSH bitter finish that really ruins a basically boring but unoffensive beer. Pass. Wednesday, March 30, 2011

1.2 Harrisons Raspberry Wheat On-tap at this place...Pours an ugly dark murky hone gold, just ugly. A light tope head, not much going on there... The aroma is asisnely sweet, generic tart raspberries, tons of sugar, yuck... The taste is one of the most chemically plastic beers I’ve ever had. Raspberry cough syrup barrel aged in plastic, barf... The mouthfeel is bad, acidic and biting. Needless to say this is terrible and should be avoided. Wednesday, March 30, 2011

3.6 Harrisons Red This one was good. Red amber color. Sweet nose, caramel also. Sweet flavor. Chocolate/crystal malts used for sure. Maybe wilamette and liberty hops used. Mild hops, mild malts. The brew needs more malt though and make it a medium body opposed to a lighter body. My irish red was better that I brewed in November. Great beer to drink with a burger or steak. 3.8 Harrisons Raspberry Wheat Raspberry reddish.yellow haze color, berry nose. tastes like wheat with infused slight raspberry taste. No extract in this brew. Great session beer and could definitely try again. If I had to take a growler home, this would be the brew.. Tuesday, March 1, 2011

3.2 Harrisons Wheat orange/yellow color, cloudy and served with lemon. Smells lemon, light banana. Taste is light banana, but does not taste like typical hafeweizen with heavy banana and clove taste. I’m assuming a traditional Wyeast haffeweizen yeast was not used in this one. A light, tasty hafeweizen.. Tuesday, March 1, 2011

3 Harrisons Lazy Dog Lager On tap at the brewpub: This poured a clear golden body with lively carbonation and a dense white head that left loads of lace. The aroma was a subdued grainy pale malt sweetness with a quiet grassy bitterness. Very spritzy mouthfeel. The flavor was grainy and mildly sweet with a balancing grassy/earthy/floral bitterness. Quaffable. Saturday, November 21, 2009

3.5 Harrisons Imperial Stout This was served in a snifter at the brewpub. I was hoping to find the immortal Jazz Ale on tap, but it had already been replaced by this respectable Stout. It had a black body with a tight brown head that rapidly reduced to a halo around the snifter. It had a choclatey aroma supplemented by lightly roated malts, aniseed, and a touch of dark plums. The chocolate dominated the flavor, but there was an increase in the licorice taste and a splash of alcohol as well. Pretty decent beer, over all. Thursday, October 1, 2009

2.8 Harrisons Jazz Ale dark gold color, white head, no lace. nose of sweet malt, trace of hops. flavor has a sweet malt backbone with a hope note and some spice. lightly fizzy, medium bodied, dry finish. non-specific in style, brewer suggests a play on a saison. i’m not convinced. inoffensive, though. on tap @ brewpub. 2.4 Harrisons Apricot Wheat very pale clear yellow, not much white head, no lace. pretty airy apricot nose with a touch of grain. flavor is predominantly apricot with a trace of hops and grain. nedium bodied, lightly bitter fionish. the apricot flavor wasn’t bad, but there is a certain sweetness that shouldn’t be there, i think. on tap @ brewpub. 2 Harrisons Hefe Weissen hazy pale yellow color, tiny white head, some lace. nose of banana candy (be there such a thing?). flavor of banana bubble gum (be there such a thing?). light bodied, candy sweet finish. the candy/bubblegum are much too prevalent for me to like this one (not a banana fan i guess). sampled from a growler provided by harrison’s brewer. Sunday, August 23, 2009

3.1 Harrisons Hefe Weissen On tap at the brewpub: It poured a hazy gold body with a short-lived white head. The aroma was full of bananas, both fresh and old. Just a touch of wheaty tartness was added to the flavor. The spiciness that I expected never arrived. Not bad. Monday, March 30, 2009
Cornfield |
2.8 Harrisons Cherry Ale On tap at the brewpub: This poured a golden body with a fluffy head that vanished quickly. The aroma was maraschino cherries, which I always liked on my sundaes. The flavor was mildly tart/sour with a nutty bitterness that seemed out of place. It finished on an odd bitter, mineraly note. Monday, March 30, 2009

2.9 Harrisons Butterscotch Ale Glass poured from a growler shared by my girlfriend’s cousin. A new beer to try, and despite the Harrisons namesake, I was excited to try it but a bit intimidated by its potential cloying sweetness. Near black pour with decent cinnamon head that dissipates to a film. Aromas of moderate butterscotch, vanilla, and sweet sundae or creme brulee feel. Taste is more muted than expected, a far cry from the Southern Tier Creme Brulee Stout. Butterscotch, vanilla, weaker body and a touch watery. Finishes smooth and emotionless but leaves some decent butterscotch notes on the palate. Interesting, they accomplished what they set out to do. However, the brew itself was lacking in complexity. Still, quaffable if you are into sweeter beers. Sunday, January 4, 2009

3.5 Harrisons Butterscotch Ale GABF 2008. well, this one is definitely not going to appeal to everybody, but I quite liked it. Near black, butterscotch and vanilla aroma. The palate is certainly sweet, but it is not one-dimensional as feared from the aroma: in addition to the butterscotch, there is coffee, chocolate, and vanilla. Somehow these flavours remain in balance with the malts.Finish is dry, which helps offset the sweeter profile of this beer. Friday, October 24, 2008

2.1 Harrisons Black Diamond Stout Dark brown color with an earthy, smokey/char aroma. Tan thin head that dissipated quickly. Flavor is burnt coffee, reminiscent of a fire that’s been out for awhile. Somewhat flat/low carbonation. Not at all one of my favorite stout samplings. Wednesday, October 15, 2008
Cornfield |
2.8 Harrisons Orland Pacific Amber On tap at the brewpub: This has a very dark, clear amber body with a short-lived off-white head and spotty lacing. It’s very sweet in both aroma and flavor, caramel and fresh apples and runny molasses. Not bad malt aroma/flavor, but it needs more hops to keep it from getting cloying. Wednesday, September 24, 2008
Cornfield |
1.7 Harrisons Blueberry Wheat On tap at the brewpub: This was a hazy dark straw in body with a bubbly head. Way too strong on the blueberry, one of the few fruits that I do not care for, and an artificial aroma and flavor to boot. It took quite a while to stop burping this stuff up. Wednesday, September 24, 2008

2.5 Harrisons Brown Ale dark brown body, slight tan head, some lacing. aroma of sweet malt, chocolate. creamy, sweet taste, too reminiscent of guinness for me. medium bodied, sweet finish. too sweet for me. Friday, August 15, 2008

2.3 Harrisons LaGrange Golden Light clear yellow, slight white head, some lacing, too watery looking. grassy, wheaty aroma, a stronger nose than i expected for a light beer. creamy, corny flavor. full mouth-feel, fizzy. kind of a ’salty’ finish. not as bad as i feared, but in the end, the ’saltiness’ was ultimately distracting. Friday, August 15, 2008

2.7 Harrisons Cherry Wheat golden with a slight white head. aroma of wild cherries. luckily, there is only a hint of cherry in the flavor. light bodided, not as much of a gag-inducer as i feared. Saturday, August 9, 2008
