UPDATED: OCT 3, 2021 From bottle (pkgd 18Jan'18) in English pint...OK, so it's not an ESA. Pours murky reddish brown w/very little head, woody aroma mixed w/dried fruits (apricot, prunes, raisins) that feature in the taste blended w/caramel & honey sweetness that sticks around. Booze is well cloaked, light spice in finish

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2020 I have to ask. The label for Hutje & Mutje says it is a NL Strong Ale BA. So why does RB have it under Strong Ale-English for ratings? Just asking. And why doesn't anybody else from the US rate beers from De Molen? Just asking that too. One of my favorite breweries anywhere, consistent top level beers offered. This appreciated 33 cl bottle came in an exchange from good compadre, Benzai. Thinking about you my friend. I had my New Belgium snifter out for an earlier sampling, using it here too. It arrives a dark brown-amber liquid. A thin covering of tawny, eggshell white foam survives. The fragrance fills the room, ripe and dark fruit, raisin bread and grain. I take an anticipatory drink. Wow, this is one of the best Belg, oops, English strong ales I can recall. In your face with the booze, malt, prunes, raisins and dark chocolate. I'll see if the 13% kicks in later. Superb.

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2019 0.33 l bottle from 'Sterk Avondverkoop', bottled in January 2018, cellared for over a year. Clear, deep ruby with a thin, frothy, almost stable, light beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently fruity aroma of molasses, raisins, dates, some bourbon and a touch of vanilla. Very sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly fruity taste of molasses, raisins, dates, bourbon and vanilla, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, gently warming finish with a touch of glue and quite some booze. Full body, almost oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very intense, the aroma is very inviting, it's just a bit too boozy to be great.

Borefts XI Day 2 . Post fest solo jerk off hotel tasting. Almost clear deep amber beer, small yellowish tan head. Fairly light and smooth palate, decent fine carbonation. Soft semi dry caramel malts, light creamy sweetness. Good fruity bourbon. mildly spicy. Touch of wood and slightly dank wet wood. Smooth fruity bourbon linger. Nice. Mystified why this an ESA. ASA would be a better! Very good barrelling.

Lupulus13 (392) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - AUG 5, 2019
UPDATED: AUG 5, 2019 Bottle from De Molen. Red brown, slightly cloudy with minimal beige head. Lower carb. Acrid honey aroma. Thick start with pinewood, raisin and a bit of smoke quickly sweetening and ending on some not too sweet wild honey. Strong stuff!
