UPDATED: NOV 23, 2021 This is now being rebranded as a Winter Ale so I'm rating the lager version from old records. A nice mocha/cola vibe from the dark malt, easy drinking w/decent bitterness

On tap at brewery, Hunter. Pours an ink black with a off cream head. Aroma: roasted malt, mild cocoa, hazelnut and syrup notes. Taste: roasted malt, citrus, earthy flavours. Thin to medium bodied. Easy drinking. A little bit tart/citric bitterness on the finish. This was ok.

345ml bottle into shaker. Nose of cocoa and dark chocolate. Opaque red/brown beer with creamy white head. Medium body, bit of zinginess. Finish is dark chocolate, coffee & a touch of distant lemon. Delicious!

Deep brow, almost black with thin tan head. Head dissipates quickly and it looks like a glass of coke. Coffee, roasty, and a little licorice on the nose. Taste is sweet, a little coffee, brown sugar, roast. Not bad.

Pours dark with a light tan head. Very light bodied, medium carbonation. Strong coffee aromas, some malt and smoke. Taste is similar, coffee and a smokey finish. Refreshing due to the light body.

From a bottle. Dark with a strong roasted coffee aroma, rich flavours of chocolate and roasted malt. I was surprised by this, I expected less.

Nice beer! Poured at a good temperature with a smallish, tan head that was quick to settle and no lace. Color is a clear brown tinted ruby. Aroma is a nice blend of malt, roast, toffee, cocoa, bit of smoke, maybe hint of anise. Flavor’s like nose, tang, malt, in front, then sweet, wit roast and smoke, cocoa, toffee, caramel. Body/carbonation good. Finish is like flavor, average length, very drinkable - have to go to the hotel bar to get more or maybe nearby bottleshop if I’m lucky.

Draught as part of a tasting paddle at Archive Beer Boutique and Bistro, Brisbane, on July 19, 2013.
Clear, very dark reddish brown, close to black color, tan head. Roasted, sweet, grainy, coffee taste. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bitterness that finishes dry. Sweet, malty, roasted scent.

Dark chestnut brown. Brown sugary, toffeeish. Light body. Some more brown sugar as it rounds out.
